Can you imagine if special teams coaches wise up in 2024 and understand if your kickoffs are touchbacks and you’re willing to punt out of bounds, you basically take Bergan out of the game.
It's not that easy. Even some of Hall's kickoffs didn't make the end zone including the one we needed it most - right after we scored a TD in Missoula and were trying to get back in the game.
Sometimes your punter has to hurry his kick, sometimes he doesn't hit it exactly where he wanted, etc.
No matter what you do there are times you're gonna have to play disciplined kick coverage.

Speaking of the portal, I understand that there are a lot of Washington players hitting the portal. What are the chances we pick up a kicker? Or a good linebacker, or maybe a lightning fast receiver with excellent hands, or maybe a nose tackle in exchange for Valdez ?
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

Players can enter the portal for 30 days if the head coach leaves. So Bama, Washington and Arizona players can now enter the portal.

Yes, but they also have to be able to go to school. I want to say I read that schools on a quarter system have a slight advantage due to this.

And remember, players who entered the portal are free to sign whenever. They don't have a signing period. Next portal opening is April 15-30 with the exception of teams when your coach leaves. Grad transfers can also sign whenever...they don't need a portal. Only block for the unsigned transfers is they eventually have to line up with the school calendar at their next school.

What's the last day to sign up for classes at MSU for spring semester?
Is this the effective last day to sign a portal transfer?

Only if they want to be at spring practice. Cats could sign a grad transfer that still needed to complete a semester in order to graduate.

Saw Gilman's brother committed to the gris. Guess that means he's staying.
I guess that’s one way to get a kid to stay. Too bad his little brother can’t even get on the rides at the county fair.
Keep it classy, Monte Gillman is still in Highschool. No need to take low blows at a high school kid.
Cry me river!!

The kid is listed at 5’6. You griz turds are worse at picking people apart than any fan base in the fcs. Stfu
Yep griz fans are terrible with that kind of stuff. Remember all the despicable things they said about Gunnar Brekke when he flipped his commit from um to the Cats? While still in high school, by the way Mr. 1890.
I remember them saying terrible things about Tommy after hit commit to the Cats.
GrizinEverett/EverettinWashington was going to have me thrown in prison over that. Possibly the electric chair!
That guy is an incredible douchnozzle. Went down to Frisco with some Griz friends and one of them was talking to that moron. I was shocked someone so tiny and frail would run their mouth the way he does online. Nobody cries troll more than that feminine specimen

Moving away from the discussion about Hauck, (and by the way he didni't get his reputation by accident, he created it and he deserves it. Ask some of the students at UM who majored in journalism and tried to interview him for their student newspaper,) I read this morning that Jr. Begen is staying with UM. I admire his loyalty (unless of course he got a big paycheck from the billionaire Washington guy.)
A lot of gris players and fans don’t like Hauck. Players spend most of their time with position coaches so it’s probably not a huge deal. McDowell hated Hauck.
This year was an aberration with SAC and Weber getting new coaches and UM playing a light schedule and MSU playing a heavy schedule. UM could’ve just as easily been 6-5 this year. I give them credit though for staying with it. They got their confidence going late in the year but were back to their usual selves in the end. The wins over Furman and NDSU were weak. From listening to postgame interviews, I don’t think they really learned from the experience. Remind a little bit of the Colgate from 2003.
Most Griz players like Hauck, there a few who don't. If players didn't like him, we would see a whole lot more players transfer.
Most players do not like Hauck they just play the game. Last year half of the team was going to quit and Pease kept all the skill players there because he was the new OC. I will not say the name of the current player but my friends were talking with him and his parents in Frisco. One of the former players asked him how he liked Hauck. This starter on this years team said and I quote, 'I would gladly trade the opportunity to play in the NC tomorrow for a chance to get Hauck in a room by himself so I could beat the ****** out of him". I was shocked a guy on a team would say that, but a few of the former players agreed he was right and they would love to see it.

Im not an insider, just hanging out in a parking lot with some friends and former players. If you don't like it don't read it.

I beleive once a coach leaves the players have a 30 day window where they can enter the portal. So even though the portal window has passed, bama and washington players can still enter the portal as well as players from other programs who just lost their coach (Arizona and San Jose State are two that come to mind).
