All we can do is support the QB club and NIL Collective.
It sucks, but that is what we got.

Why does it "suck"? Both of those are amazing organizations that do great work with the donations they receive. MSU has become a perennial championship contender at the FCS level and the generous financial support provided to the program by fans and alumni has been a big part of that, both in terms of facilities improvements as well as the Bobcat Club, QBC, and NIL Collective.RootinfortheCats wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:45 amAll we can do is support the QB club and NIL Collective.

I believe if he wins the next two games he'll have brought in $655k or so for himself this year.CodyCat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:30 amSo without bonuses, Vigen is making $494,000 this year. I cant view the article where Colter broke down the incentives. So, making it this far, beating the gris, and likely some others, Vigen is probably at $600k this year.D-Wreck wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 9:37 amPer Colter's 2/2/24 article on Skyline:89Cat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:50 amDoes anyone know what Coach Vigen's salary/package is worth? I just read the story on 406 sports about Bobby Hauck's new contract. "Hauck signed a new three-year contract last month that increases his potential earnings from $534,000 to $732,000 annually." That surprised me. Hopefully, Vigen having his boys on the team, building a great program, and the allure of living in Bozeman with a rabid fanbase that makes games exciting, may be enough to entice him to stick around for a few more years. If you want to read the full story on Hauck's contract, it's here: https://406mtsports.com/college/big-sky ... ted-bottom.
$214.649.87 annual base salary
Escalating retention bonus when Coach is employed on July 1: $35,000 retention bonus in Year 1, $40,000 in year 2, 45,000 in year 3 and $50,000 in year 4.
$40,000 per year for radio media bonus
$40,000 per year for TV media bonus
$30,000 fundraising bonus
There are also many performance (including academic) related bonuses as well as MSU's "best efforts" to obtain a courtesy vehicle. Colter has a good breakdown of some of those bonuses in his article here: https://skylinesportsmt.com/details-of- ... 0annually.

What I mean is, it sucks those are the only tools we have to retain talent, even though they are great organizations.

Gotcha. I still feel like MSU has done a better job of retaining its talent than the vast majority of other FCS and lower-level FBS programs out there. The simple fact though is that as long as MSU stays at the FCS level and continues to recruit great players and attract talented young assistant coaches as well as it has been doing recently, they're going to lose some of those players and coaches every year to bigger, wealthier programs. Unless you're Georgia or Oregon or Texas or one of the other schools at the very top of the pile in terms of financial resources, if you succeed enough it is inevitable that you will eventually find yourself the victim of that success.RootinfortheCats wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 12:09 pmOh. I got lazy and didn't scroll to the bottom to see this one: "If he were to duplicate the success of the playoff run in 2021, beat all four playoff teams that made the playoffs last season, and add a Big Sky title and coach of the year like in 2022, Vigen could earn $614,650. An undefeated run to the national championship (including an FBS win) would earn Vigen $665,650."CodyCat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:30 amSo without bonuses, Vigen is making $494,000 this year. Re: Keeping what we have
I see the pros and cons of success at this level.
Coaches have been and will be climbers and we want that! Not necessarily losing our favorite and most successful coaches as that hurts but we want our “family” to succeed and that success should be celebrated!
Players are in the same boat except the timing due to academics. We want to continue to recruit above our level. If we give kids a chance to move up after a couple years and cash in if they are good enough, we will be able to recruit the kids that benefit most from 2-3 years development and learning/adapting to a successful system. The team concept isn’t dead it just has morphed into a career path rather than 1 and done. I think we will always have a brotherhood of core guys who are ride or die Bobcats! As long as all players sellout competitively and academically while they are here, all players deserve our support.
Just understand programs like this are built one legend at a time and this group is a couple of games away from writing the history they only dreamt of when they signed!

What about subsidized housing for coaching staff? I know that many companies are using that method to attract and retain talent. Beyond Vigen the rest of these guys are struggling with their coaching salaries and living in Bozeman. Sure would help attract some up and coming coordinators.

Maybe Nick Faldo can get his Yellowstone Club buddies to open up their checkbooks to keep the NIL well funded. That would help retain some talent.

That’s actually a really good idea. Students love the social media presence and we are already producing at a very high level in that department. How do we contribute to the NIL collective again?
