Something Positive

Post by nanacat » Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:07 pm

Saw this article which is very positive regarding our student-athletes. Needed something good to offset the negative today.

I’m excited to see how things play out with the next signing day period. What positions we go after, who we bring in and who will step up to fill the holes that the portal is creating.

Punters are people too!!

First Wednesday of February? Yes, you’ll know who’s coming before but it’s got more intrigue this year.

Actually, the more intriguing date for me is January 14th, the start of the Spring semester. If the Cats are going for any big transfers, especially a QB, then it would be nice to have them on the team for Spring ball.

Oh, and the Cats just lost their QB coach/Offensive coordinator. How easy will it be to get a transfer QB in here before next week? :-k

I’m not sure if it’s possible per NCAA rules but it would be a big positive to fund MSU’s trip to Flagstaff next year to be a day early.

Adjust for altitude. I’m not sure one day early would make a difference.

Really. OK. Ya I'm not sure a day would make a difference. It's just always hard to play there.

If the altitude is really the only reason it's hard to play there (seems like it) then I think an extra day would help. The downside is it's one more day away from home and makes for a different road schedule. Might be a draw.

True. Just thought the positive might outweigh the negative. Tired but not winded vs fresh but winded?

Another positive: we continue to win the in-state recruiting battle. In these chaotic portal/NIL times we have to get the best out of the Montana high schools as those guys don't leave. We have some great home-grown guys on the team that will be the leaders next year.

+1 and this is proving to be more and more important as we watch the portal take the out of state guys away.

I guess I had a couple of positive experiences at the game. I ran into Delmar Jones while I was in Frisco. Growing up in Helena, Delmar was a football hero of mine, both in High School and for the Cats. I saw Delmar and his family quite a bit growing up, but had never talked with him or shook his hand before I met him in Frisco. That was pretty cool. I also met Tim Nixon (another 1976 Champion) down in Frisco and he and his wife were very, very nice people.

Delmar is one of the best MSU stories ever. From his early years to his recruitment by Sonny Holland throughout his career.

Also, Delmar’s telling of the 1978 team season is very good.
