I have to say, I’m a little disappointed in the lack of April Fools’Day posts.

Re: Random stuff 2025
I once did an April Fool's Day post here where I wrote a fake news article saying that MSU was switching colors to a light blue like North Carolina. Apparently the Athletic Department was getting phone calls from people who had seen it and called to ask about it...after that I did not do anymore, the AD staff are busy enough as it is!
Here it is: https://bobcatnation.com/bobcatbb/viewt ... 127#p21127
And another from a different year: https://bobcatnation.com/bobcatbb/viewt ... p=473#p473

Now those are good! I can see why people were fooled. I was going to post something about Bozeman bidding for 2038 Winter Olympics.

Taco has been busy during the offseason. Seems to be excited.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I saw this on twitter and I was a little confused about the whole thing for a bit. However, if you click on the link, there is an explanation on how it all works. There are other MSU players on the site as well, not just Taco. I'm curious though, if a player leaves for another program, do I get a refund?

Re: Random stuff 2025
That is a good question. It makes we wonder if Jones( who also has the same twitter post),and Dowler are now receiving some pretty big NIL offers. I am just guessing here, but maybe they are testing the waters to see if they can get some sort of reciprocal NIL to stay Bobcats, which I believe they truly want to do, but the offers are getting pretty sizeable. I do not envy the position the $$$ offers are putting these student athletes in, as they are probably trying to balance the financial, emotional and academic nuances to do what is best for themselves, which is what this new world order of portal transfer and NIL is doing. If they were not Montana boys I believe they would both already be gone. From what I’ve heard they have already turned down some large offers…….
Hoping we can keep them here.
Man I hate the NIL/transfer portal. Completely ruining college sports.

The website says that if the player you've "staked" goes to another school, then your money gets credited back to your account. The whole thing seems pretty wild, it's like eBay for college sports players with entire fanbases getting to team up to see who can generate the highest bid amount for a player. And you can "stake" players who don't play at your school and haven't even entered the transfer portal yet, as well as on high school recruits. Reading the description of what that website is sent a metaphorical chill up my spine. I don't blame any of the players for participating in it if it gets them some money but...it all just seems icky.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 1:39 pmI saw this on twitter and I was a little confused about the whole thing for a bit. So, I guess I'm just handing over money to players directly with this? I thought that went against the NIL "rules", but I guess it doesn't.

The NIL deal is through Fanstake. To my knowledge, the players do not see any of the money until they are on the roster for the 2025 season (meaning no portalling after spring/summer). At that point, Fanstake makes the NIL deal with them and they get the money that was donated (pledged) to them. I would bet Fanstake is able to offer a “free” $25 initial donation on one’s behalf because they take a decent percentage of the money donated. The posts like Taco and Adam’s are great advertising for Fanstake, so that could count as the NIL deal requirement, and then they make money as do the players. As part of a partnership with the Bobcat Collective it sounds like they are making sure these deals are compliant hahaAFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 5:40 pmI saw Scottre Humphrey listed on there as a Bobcat.MSU01 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 4:34 pmThe website says that if the player you've "staked" goes to another school, then your money gets credited back to your account. Yeah, the more that I read up on this, the stranger it seems. Fanstake makes bank for having a webpage and the players get a chunk of money for doing next to nothing. Okaaaaay. I've also seen at least two former Bobcats listed on their site as Bobcats. I should donate a bunch of money to each of them saying they will be Bobcats, just to have it pulled because they are no longer Bobcats.MTmadeCat wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 6:29 pmThe NIL deal is through Fanstake. Re: Random stuff 2025
I laughed when I saw that MSU is #2 in "stakes" for Travis Hunter with $332. I'm sure that kind of money will lure him out of the NFL draft and back to NCAA football to play his senior year. This seems like a pretty sweet deal for players assuming that the "endorsement deals" they sign just require them to advertise the website through social media posts. That said, will I be putting a single cent of my money into this? Hell no.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 6:39 pmYeah, the more that I read up on this, the stranger it seems. Re: Random stuff 2025
The way it works is that if you stake a player, the money only gets released if they stay. If they transfer, the funds don’t go to the player.
We just rolled this out yesterday, so it’s brand new. I’ll be putting together a separate post soon to explain it more clearly. There’s still some cleanup to do on rosters and other info since it’s currently built off the 2024 roster — I’m working directly with Fanstake on that.
Big picture: this is about giving fans more control. You can support specific players directly while having peace of mind that your support stays with the program. This doesn’t replace our broader membership model (which pools funds and we allocate them strategically), it’s just another way for supporters to get more involved and intentional with their giving.
It’s also been really well received by the players — they appreciate the ability to advocate for themselves and promote their own brand.
Appreciate you checking it out and the feedback. More details coming soon!
