All that has happened so far is a vote from coaches supporting the rule change. Now it will need to go to the NCAA Rules and Oversight committees who will decide whether the change is made, and it's entirely possible that if it does happen it could apply to both FBS and FCS.lutecat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:43 amThe P4 came up with that rule proposal. Its not an FCS rule. The Butcher wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:27 amWith the redshirt rule changing from four games to nine, could the Cats take advantage of that with a player like Crews? He could sit out games that are likely wins (Utah Tech, Butler, Central Connecticut) and play in the rest. I’m assuming postseason games still don’t count toward the game limit.

That is why I think it will happen. No way the NCAA Rules and Oversight tell the P4 coaches 'no' in today's college football climate.MSU01 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:50 amAll that has happened so far is a vote from coaches supporting the rule change. No, receivers can't wear 41, and no, they wouldn't give it to 2 players. I think Caden is the obvious answer.

Caden won’t be a senior. Doesn’t it go to a senior?

Why won't he be a senior?
Regular season games per year:
'22 - 5 games
'24 - 6 games
'25 - most/all

No…. Caden is definitely going to be a senior (along with Taco).
Can’t go wrong with Caden, Crews or Daily. All would be great options.

Really??? Caden has used his redshirt. Taco never did. Plus a possible addition medical redshirt.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 9:30 am

I don’t know about any potential medical redshirts (I sure hope they can find some additional years, ha)….CodyCat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 11:08 amReally??? Caden has used his redshirt. Taco never did. Plus a possible addition medical redshirt.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 9:30 am

But they were both listed as juniors this last season.

Re: Who’s the next 41?
Number 41 needs to be someone who actually sees the field as in a starter. It drives me nuts when a legacy number goes to a player that does not play. (AKA the team across the divide who buries their montana kids in the depth chart with transfers)FlatheadCatt wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:31 pmI’ve been thinking about this a lot and there are a number of ways the cats could go for next year.
1. Caden seems like the obvious choice here but don’t want to count out other worthy players.
2. Caden and taco could both been number 41 since they play on opposite sides of the ball. It’d be neat but may diminish the number. And I don’t know if a WR could wear 41?
3. There are a number of other players it could be, all good choices.
Eligible players (I think)
- Caden Dowler
- Taco Dowler
- Jaren Perkins
- Tommy Nilson
- Jake Vigen
- Ryan Krahe
- Zac Crews
- Neil Daily
Lastly I am curious who selects the next 41. I know the current Griz #37 gets to pick their successor but I’m not sure about 41 for us.
Just some thoughts going into the off season!
Go Cats baby!
