I happened to be at the Fieldhouse when Solomonson was giving his firing/resignation press conference. The man was in tears as a friend and I stood and watched from the back row.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 12:22 pmAnother school made a legendary D2 coach their head coach!

Most younger Bobcat fans probably forget about Earle Solomonson and are instead remembering Bob Stitt's less than excellent time in Missoula. D-2 to D-1 head coach can also work out very well of course...Joe Glenn went from D-2 Northern Colorado to UM and won a National Championship there, and also Beau Baldwin who moved to EWU from D-2 Central Washington and won a National Championship. If only there were a formula for hiring that always worked, it would be much easier!PapaG wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 1:23 pmI happened to be at the Fieldhouse when Solomonson was giving his firing/resignation press conference. Re: Staff. Who do we bring in?
Well, to state the obvious, the difference here is we are bringing him into be the offensive coordinator, not the head coach. That being said it's nice to have a guy head coaching experience on the staff. Never know down the road.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 2:03 pmMost younger Bobcat fans probably forget about Earle Solomonson and are instead remembering Bob Stitt's less than excellent time in Missoula. Also, thank you. I could not remember Earle Solomonson's name. Always knew him as the guy we got from NDSU after Dave Arnold.
That may have been the first time NDSU go the better of us...lol just kidding everyone. Rather not start a thread on that non-topic.

Actually, I think the Pearl curse will stay with us until the last remnants of anything he touched in the stadium is gone forever. The East grandstands must be replaced!RangeCat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:06 pmWell, to state the obvious, the difference here is we are bringing him into be the offensive coordinator, not the head coach. Hey, if that's justification we need to get the east grandstands replaced, I'm 100% behind it. Maybe perform an exorcism and/or a seance while we are at it, if that is the case.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:13 pmActually, I think the Pearl curse will stay with us until the last remnants of anything he touched in the stadium is gone forever. Would be nice to finally get that replaced. Before they would repaint it, I was afraid getting Tetanus from the exposed rust.

Well, he certainly has the credentials of a Bobcat-like OC - High scoring; red zone success; great experience. Regardless of the Stitt experience over the hill, I think it looks like a great hire with his experience. Cats need to be an explosive offense as part of our MO.

As long as he uses tight ends and doesn’t run the fly sweep a dozen times a game, it’s all good.Catprint wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 6:42 pmWell, he certainly has the credentials of a Bobcat-like OC - High scoring; red zone success; great experience. Gris fans were so excited because the West Virginia coach used the fly sweep in a bowl game and credited Stitt for it.

Stitt left csm after 2014. So this seems like a really good hire. Is it likely the other open spots will be filled from within?

Re: Staff. Who do we bring in?
Possibly, but if they are that just creates different positions that need to be filled. Three outgoing coaches so far means three total outside hires are needed to get back to being fully staffed.

That COULD be a selling point employed to get him on board as the O.C.! “When Vigen leaves, depending on your resume’ as the O.C. You may very well have a look at the HC of the Bobcats!”RangeCat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:06 pmWell, to state the obvious, the difference here is we are bringing him into be the offensive coordinator, not the head coach. I think we get another verbal or two in the next day or two.. I don’t expect more than a few during this period. Like I said, Sterbick and a few recruits were here last weekend. Looks like coaches are doing more high school recruiting if anything right now.

Ahh, the veer offense. Run so well by NDSU, but Earl couldn't implement it very well at MSU. I'll never forget his quote; "You can run for a touchdown just as fast as you can throw for one." Not if your run game can't get past the line of scrimmage, Earl.Bobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:20 amDive left, dive right, dive middle, punt.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 2:03 pmMost younger Bobcat fans probably forget about Earle Solomonson and are instead remembering Bob Stitt's less than excellent time in Missoula. Vigen may have wanted to fill the OC position first in order to give the new OC a voice in who is hired as position coaches.
