But he's not officially hired yet, right?
No. I just wrote that he’s a name to watch for.

Really happy for Marcus. I made a post after the Cat/Griz game how he was one of the unsung heroes on the coaching staff last year assisting Udy with special teams. He now gets the official title after three years of grinding. That's cool!

Interesting that Smith was OL coach at Fresno State and is taking the same position at MSU. You don't see lateral moves from FBS to FCS often. Not in my experience at least.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I believe I read that when Entz took over he brought his own O-Line coach with him. He was going to keep Smith on staff but demoted him to a quality control coach.

I figured there must be a logical explanation to it. Thanks!

I'm trying to do the math on this. Did we add one more coach than what we lost? Is there still an NCAA limit on the the number of coaches allowed on staff?

I don't think so. They lost Walker, Johnson, and Udy and added Sterbick, Smith, and Mesa.

So I guess my question boils down to Monaco. I probably don’t understand the difference between his previous role as Quality Control vs his new role as ST coordinator.

Money, bigger paycheck, is probably the biggest difference. BJ Robertson was the Special Teams coordinator at MSU and the position was never officially filled under Vigen, until now. The new title means more cash and something better to put on the Resume' someday.

For sure, but I’m wondering ST coordinator counts differently toward the number of coaches allowed on staff by the ncaa. For some reason I thought it did, but maybe not.

There used to be a limit on coaches with direct player access. QC generally didn't count towards the limit as they were more back office positions. Not sure if that's still the case or not. I also seem to recall that we've had seasons where we didn't hit the formal limit. We didn't necessarily have open positions, they just didn't all count towards the limit, so that could be the case here as well.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

13 for FCS. Not sure who exactly counts in that total though. I know Arbizanni does some recruiting and he isn't a position coach, but he might just do stuff on campus and doesn't visit players at home.
