All make sense now? Matt Lubick who was the first choice (turned it down to stay at Nebraska) for the Bobcat job when Jeff left. Vigen was the 3rd choice. Matt and Jeff go way back. All the way back to Dillon Montana in the early 90's. Matt is undergoing a stem cell transplant currently in Denver. He will join the team late winter, early spring. Jeff is assembling a 1st class coaching staff.
It’s certainly an interesting choice, I’ll give it that.

Yep. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he turns that program into a legit FBS contender within three or four years. I think it could be a Boise State situation..... I think they ended up #2 in the country 10-15 years ago.

Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Who was the 2nd choice?

He’s going to coach receivers and QB’s? That’s…weird. They already have a RB coach. Will the OC be TE’s or OL? Very interesting choices he’s making.
Very unusual, although with Choate's love of all things running game he may like an OC that is directly controlling the line.
I could’ve sworn I remember him saying he likes his OC to also be the QB coach, and that was why he moved Matt Miller to QB coach despite never coaching QB’s before.
If Lubick comes on as OC, he has a history of being the WR coach as well. Wonder if that will shift things around.

Banking on a guy who has cancer and hasn’t been all that great as an OC is a really bold choice for a guy trying to turn around an FBS program.

I suppose if Bohl can win in Laramie then anything is possible. They averaged under 15K fans a game last year. Reno is not a desirable destination. Decent facilities. Not sure how good the school is. Doubt they would have a lot of NIL money. If Choate can win there he can win anywhere.

I was wondering if ARMY would re-join Choate. I think they are pretty good buddies, and they definitely trust each other. Good for him!

Really looking forward to the MWC games next year! Colorado State ought to be pretty good and Wyoming is a huge question mark with Bohl hanging it up and one can assume Choate will restore Nevada's toughness.

Fascinating to me, especially with Oregon State and WAZZU working with a few select ADs and university presidents. I'd love to bump some of the old threads a few of the posters put up not many years ago arguing which was better, the pukey pac or the Big 10...hilarious actually.

Choate fell into the perfect storm! His staff is really looking impressive.

Is the staff that good though? Idk. It’s fine, nothing special imo.

I'd think it's decent. Nice thing about being retired? I can just observe. This time next year we'll know how good his staff was--operative word? Was.

Actually more interested in Wyoming's staff.

So Nevada is looking like the FBS version of the Cats as far as coaching staff. Interesting.

That is definitely interesting! Montana (state) connections run deep. So how many coaches is that that have ties to Montana State?

Real nice to see the Western Montana coaching tree. Last year North Dakota State had four Montana natives on their staff.

Crazy to see that of all the places Choate has been, he draws from Montana State the most.

True, but it's probably harder to get Texas and Washington guys to goto Nevada than it is to get MSU guys.

 no doubt Choate will treat that game just like he did the um game. He's gonna make sure BSU regrets not hiring him.
