Probably a coach leaving that hasn’t been announced yet.

Re: Staff. Who do we bring in?
Just a matter of titles, I think. The new rule for the 2024 season and beyond is that FCS teams can have 13 coaches who work with players and have direct access to the team, no matter what the titles of those positions are. All 13 are now allowed to coach on the sidelines during games, whereas previously not all of them were allowed to. This rule change is why Chambers was out there giving signals last year even though he was only in an "Analyst" position. So Monaco moving from Quality Control to ST Coordinator on its own doesn't change anything, he's just still counted as one of the 13.wbtfg wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 12:35 pmSo I guess my question boils down to Monaco. I probably don’t understand the difference between his previous role as Quality Control vs his new role as ST coordinator.

Re: Staff. Who do we bring in?
The more I hear/read about Smith, the more interesting he gets. Walkon, then Walkon of the Year nominee, then on Rimington Award Watch List, Campbell (Academic Heisman) semifinalist twice. He's really battled through a lot of adversity football-wise. He was injured in two of his final three seasons. The only one he completed was the 2020 Covid season. His first stint as OL coach, the team had numerous injuries and had eight different starting lineups. Then he gets bumped out of his position in the coaching change.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 12:12 pmI figured there must be a logical explanation to it. Thanks!RobertCats wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 12:11 pmI believe I read that when Entz took over he brought his own O-Line coach with him. He was going to keep Smith on staff but demoted him to a quality control coach.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Justin Mesa ended up taking a job with the Lions (offensive quality control coach) ... look out for Josh Firm (current OC at Robert Morris to take his spot)

Correct! I mean going to the NFL is a great opportunity for a coach, no doubt. But man can we just keep some coaches?!!tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 2:31 pmNo then it is a skipping stone.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 2:25 pmIs it a stepping stone if you never made it on campus?coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:57 pmEveryone is using MSU as a stepping stone!![]()
Maybe it's better we lost the chipper or they'd all be gone, completely gutted instead of mostly gutted.

Re: Staff. Who do we bring in?
Me neither. Until a few year ago, I only knew about the old WLAF, then I saw former MSU players getting jobs with these obscure European teams. I went to a few Frankfurt Galaxy games back in the early 90s, when John Elway's dad coached there. John even showed up to a game. I had a small world moment at a Frankfurt Galaxy game when I ended up sitting right next to a guy I went to high school with.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 3:39 pmHad no idea the French had football let alone a D3 division?!AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 2:29 pmUh, okay. MSU football has been a career-ending job for much of my early life for many coaches. From Arnold to Hysell and I suppose you could add Ash/Marshall as well.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:57 pmEveryone is using MSU as a stepping stone!
