Justin Mesa ended up taking a job with the Lions (offensive quality control coach) ... look out for Josh Firm (current OC at Robert Morris to take his spot)
What was your favorite Justin Mesa moment everyone?
Everyone is using MSU as a stepping stone!
MSU football has been a career-ending job for much of my early life for many coaches. From Arnold to Hysell and I suppose you could add Ash/Marshall as well.
Head coaching? Arnold continued to coach as an assistant after MSU, including in the NFL.
The Pearl didn’t coach again after MSU though.

This was an announcement naming Howe as the DC, Firm as the RB coach, Baptiste as the DL coach and Shep as the DB coach, but it was taken down for some reason.

Here is some information on the new running backs coach, Josh Firm. Don’t know anything about Robert Morris but they are an FCS school just northwest of Pittsburgh, the ‘cradle of quarterbacks.’

Yep. Someone should try creating a list of former MSU assistants from the last 20 years or so who currently hold bigger and better jobs elsewhere. It would be a long list.

The online rosters go back to 2008. Before that, it would be a bit more difficult. I vote for you to take up the challenge!
Actually, if you want to divide up the years and ask for volunteers to make a list of coaches for each year and research their careers after MSU, I'd be willing to take a year or two and you can consolidate the lists.
Edit; I see the early rosters don't include the names of the position coaches, so this will be a very tough task to accomplish.

There should be one more addition to the coaching staff. Possibly CB Coach or Interior DL Coach?
Or … is this the move that makes Marcus Monaco to ST coordinator math work?

Named for
that Robert Morris. Alma Mater of Hank Fraley, a fine center for the Eagles about 20 years ago. The only QB I know of from RMU was Tim Levcik, who never played a down in the NFL but did manage to get on the roster for Madden 2004

Firm has four years of experience as an OC in college (2 at Robert Morris and 2 at Morgan St.). He also coached at Wyoming for two years and was an asst. OL coach there for one year. Played QB in college.
It's going to be interesting to watch the development of the linebackers under Owens through preseason camp, assuming he doesn't get picked up by another team as I'm sure he's on a lot of teams' radars. MSU's defense looks like it could be very dynamic in 2025.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

We don’t need 3 DL coaches. I’m sure it will be a CB coach.

I was thinking more of the Western Pennsylvania region itself rather than Robert Morris University.

I don't mind giving it a shot, maybe we can start a thread with a running list that anyone can add names to. Texas currently has three former Bobcat coaches on staff with Jason McEndoo, Pete Kwiatkowski, and Johnny Nansen (MSU RB Coach in 2000). I believe Choate and Eck are the only current FBS head coaches to have worked at MSU.

I’m in. Start the thread and post a few names and I’ll pick some and research their careers. Might be cool to build an MSU coaching tree.

Sounds good, I'll get something started when I get a chance. The USA/Canada hockey game just went to OT so it won't be tonight!

Yep, we went through 20 years where this job was a career killer. No anymore!
