If he can catch maybe he can become a WR? He could be the long ball guy with his speed.kwcat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:48 pmWilson really likes it here. I hope we find someplace for him on the field to take advantage of that straight line speed he has regardless of position.ZebraCat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:35 pmIf Warren leaves after his true freshman season, that'd be really foolish. Battling for the starting spot as a redshirt sophomore would be a damn good position to be in on one of the 2/3 best programs in the FCS. I'd bet Wilson moves on though.Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:30 pmExactly my thoughts. If Lamson stays, I think we probably lose Wilson, and maybe even Duchien. If Lamson portals, those two will battle it out in spring and we probably lose one or the other. What does River Warren do? I kind of felt like he came here thinking he was gonna be the future, and maybe he decides he doesn't want to wait it out. Do we keep Grant Vigen at QB, or convert him to TE? He's a big kid; can he catch and block? Plus, we have the Janney kid coming in next season from Oregon. It's a pretty full room already...BigBruceBaker wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:21 pmRealistically I'd be shocked if we don't lose 2 between now and the end of spring ball.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:15 pmSo which QBs do we think will enter the portal? Will Duchien and Chance both stick around for another year and battle it out for QB2 or will one or both go find a field to play on?
Never want to hope for somebody ahead of you to get banged up, but it is a game where you are more likely than not to get an opportunity to play at some point even just parts of games or parts of seasons

Prukop and Ifanse both graduated from MSU before transferring, which to me is a very important distinction as they did in fact get what they originally came to MSU for. I don't think either of those guys should be thought of as somehow lesser than other players who didn't transfer, they were both great Bobcats who contributed a lot to the success the program has gone on to achieve after they left. Just my two cents!AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:53 pmI agree that legacy means more to fans sometimes. It's just not a legacy though. I get why they do it though and I don't fault them for it, just not always the best decision.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:41 pmThat legacy means more to us as fans than it does to players. The guys want to set themselves up for the most success possible. We can argue whether transferring achieves that but to expect a kid to choose a legacy over other factors at a young age is not reasonable, imo.TIrwin24 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 3:08 pmI'm not sure that I'll ever understand the motivation of a player, who just won a Natty, to immediately want to transfer away. Legacy does matter in a certain respect though. Dakota Prukop, Isaiah Ifanse, and others that left in their final year or two will be welcomed back, but not in the same way guys who stuck it out for their whole careers.
I know, we also bring in transfers that become Hall of Famers too. Elvis Akpla just did that.

Dollar, but even half of the low end would be life changing money. And a lot of kids aren’t coming from wealth so getting crazy money at such a young age is a huge step up

Oh, I think they will both be in the HOF someday. However, the legacy they could have left would have been much greater had they stayed. Isaiah could have probably put his name at the top of the rushing list for all time had he stayed. Now, his rushing record may be broken just a few years after he left. Oh I’m sure 95% of the guys who leave won’t sniff that, but are we paying 10% of it at the FCS level? Going from $25-$50K up to $200K+ for a guy like Zimmer would be really tough to turn down. Loyalty and legacy isn’t enough to make up that difference for the next 2 years

Considering Ifanse is back in Bozeman I wonder if his transfer has had an impact on his post-football career. I don't know what he's doing but would he have been better set up now if he finished as a Bobcat and didn't carry the "transferred out his last year" label?AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 4:25 pmOh, I think they will both be in the HOF someday. Ifanse was a different case. He already had a degree in hand and was stuck in that weird covid cycle where he got an extra year most guys don't get. I didn't really have an issue with his leaving. And he went to Cal and most every game he played that last season was in warm weather. Pretty awesome for a young athlete.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 4:49 pmI'd like to know that too. I think a significant majority of fans don't care if a guy has a degree or not when he transfers to play somewhere else. Good for the player but if you still have eligibility we still want you here.Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 4:54 pmIfanse was a different case. Okay, this is cool. You tell Jhase and his dad that his son was great. Very sad to see him leave, but for once no bitterness. Jhase, you come back to play or to watch or for Homecoming — you are always going to be welcome. There’s no better place than The Last Best Place and MSU.BobcatBuiltTexan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:39 pmYall some funny folks in here.... I'll will be around and give the analysis when I can.
Again he isn't my family but I am fond of him and his game. I think he got a raw deal not being put up for frosh AA but it is what it is.
When I saw the tweet I hit his dad up and he said that it really was a hard decision as jhase really likes msu, and the winters aren't too bad for him lolol, but he really wants to be on the biggest stage he can get to. The money isn't an issue for them, both parents are college educated and have good jobs.... his dad also wanted everyone to know, because msu has been so good to his son, that it was truly something that they decided when they got back to Texas today and again it was a tough decision to make. He also said he might come back if his son doesn't like what the other schools have to offer program wise and development wise.
Edit...... he said the out pouring of gratitude is very humbling... makes the decision even harder

Re: Bobcat Portal News
Great news, I thought Takhari showed significant improvement as the season went on and he continued to get fairly consistent playing time as part of the rotation at CB.

If Williams goes to Indiana, I just don’t see him seeing the field. That team is so stacked.

Exactly. And one of many reasons I'm not bitter if some of these young guys want to look elsewhere. They are looking at possibly getting paid significant $ to play for some of the top teams in the FBS Power 4. (Both Penn State and IU are excellent academically as well) Hard to blame guys for taking that type of opportunity.
We need to make sure we are funded as well as we can for NIL, and the NCAA needs to fix the broken system. But we are not losing top starters to mid Group of 5 teams.
