Does really happen to these inflatables often? I’m looking for other instances and there are some cases of them needing repairs but it’s from some kind of weather event usually. I don’t see anything about them just tearing apart and needing to be returned for repairs. I would think that they would get an entirely new fabric dome. I would be nervous about it being faulty in other areas. Can you imagine going through this only to get it reinstalled and have it fail again? That would be in the back of my mind for a couple years. Maybe it happens more often than has been documented by the media but it seems like a rare occurrence.
I don't remember this ever happening to our "temporary" bubbles or the old tennis bubble.
I know someone vandalized the North dome and it had to be patched, but I don't know of any manufacturing defects.

The gris bubble is a strong metaphor for the Hauck 2.0 era. Pump something up, only to be deflated later.
And to think back, remember how relentless some of them were when we had a building collapse on campus... how much they poked fun at being an engineering school and having that happen?
Yep. They were real Dick Heads. They funny. Not so funny now.

If anybody hasn't been to Missoula in a while, the pictures don't do this thing justice for how big and unsightly it is. It is absolutely massive and can be seen from a long ways away, and it stands out like a sore thumb.
Makes me appreciate that we put ours in a spot that wasn't being used and is out of the way, instead of right along the fricking river across from one of the bigger hotels in town

Totally agree. If roles were reversed and it was the Cats bubble, I’d be embarrassed and I wouldn’t blame the community for being pissed. I know they needed an indoor, and I don’t think they had many options on where to put it, but dang is it just an eye-sore.

I know we all like to drag on UM, but it's honestly embarrassing on their part that they settled for an inflatable bubble. Zero reason a school with their donor pool couldn't get a permanent structure. Another baffling decision from the University of Montana

Agreed on them not pursuing a permanent structure, but UM had huge financial issues at that time. Enrollment was struggling, staff and budget cuts were the norm. To change direction for a permanent facility that cost twice as much might have been too much for athletics to justify.

I'll disagree. I thought it didnt look too bad when I've driven past.
And my understanding is its set up tp eventually be permanent say 10 yeats down the road.

When you drive by, it looks like a herniated testicle.

Okay Frank Lloyd Wright whatever you say. lol
What’s going to happen to make it permanent? Did they lay down a foundation for a solid structure and then put the bubble on it?
The other issue is that thing is going to weather. It’ll start getting streaks on it from rain, snow etc.

There's a small permanent building at the east end, so I think it would be entirely feasible at some point to take down the bubble and build a permanent structure around the interior practice field and track areas. I'll let others assess the aesthetics of the Bobby Bubble, as MSU's facility isn't exactly a thing of beauty either looking at it from the outside. Being tucked away somewhat behind the stadium helps.

The excuse for not having a permanent structure is that the city wouldn't let them. But they will in the future?

There's no way Missoula wouldn't let them build a permanent structure but gave the thumbs up to the inflatable giant sandworm from Dune

Hard to believe it can look any worse in person. It looks hokey as can be in the picture. I mean, I am glad they have an indoor facility, but “as big time as the Gris are”, you would have thought????? But it was all they could afford.
