Cat logic if we think we can beat the playoff teams the Griz did beat then we can say we could have played in the playoffs. All this, "Cats could be in the playoff," talk is nothing more than Griz Envy. Make the playoff or shut the Heck up.

Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

We played with everyone on our schedule (short of CSU who I would say is better than Rutgers) a lot better than you give us credit for. And I never said anything about going to UNH and beating them. I was mearly pointing out that you had no reason to say we couldn't play with them. Why when our season is over and you are still playing home games on your way to a possible national championship do you feel the need to come on our board and bash us? You won this year and deserved it but please go back to efriz and enjoy it there not at our expense.jagur1 wrote:So what in your mind makes you think the cats could play with UNH? Is the BSC so good that the 3rd place team can go to UNH and beat the Conf. Champion?
Besides, just how many playoff teams did you beat? By my calculations, not a lot more than we did.

I would think the 'average' Joe Football fan would see EW being better than UNH and we pretty much stayed toe to toe with them. Having UNH in a cold environment and at home gave the Griz the obvious advantage like usual. The Cats would have thumped Northwestern State and beaten UNH by 10 or so in my opinion if it were held in Bozeman. Bozeman would have lost had they had to go out to UNH.jagur1 wrote:Cat logic if we think we can beat the playoff teams the Griz did beat then we can say we could have played in the playoffs. Jagr1, if you don't think the Cats could have hung with either NWS or UNH (w/o their best WR you are dreaming). Every team I have seen from the EAST is ONE DIMENSIONAL. Totally! East teams are WAYYYYY OVER HYPED this year. If you can't see that, you've been drinking way too much Yaeger. The NC will be this weeks game between SHS/Montana .. both West teams. I'll bet you a bottle of Yaeger on it.

jag, are you even AWARE of the fact that UNH had the 4th best record in the A-10? They were NOT the conference champion. They had the best record in the A10 north, which is meaningless.
So, you'd rather base your decision on how they played against a bunch of teams YOU KNOW LITTLE OR NOTHING ABOUT versus judging the 2 teams that ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GRIZ IN WASHINGTON GRIZZLY STADIUM? I guess you give Big Sky football about as much credit as the Easterners do...
BTW, CSU #78, Rutgers #97 (Sagarin ratings) On the jag scale, that's apparently "perty" close.

All I know is I wish we had PSU's OL. We didn't sack that guy once, nor got close to him.

E if you want to use Sagrin look up UNH and then look up the cats. Numbnuts
3rd best overall record in the A-10 and they did win the north.
EWU wasn't all that great guys. Offenses yes, Special teams and defense no.
cats hung with a lot of teams they lost to. They also had alot of teams hang with them in the litterbox also. (You didn't hang with Suc state)
I didn't bring this up. So I'll chalk it up to Griz envy and leave you guys alone so you can talk your way into the playoffs. (By the way shouldn't the 10 teams ranked above the 5 win cat have made the playoffs before you guys?

We actually may have an OL like that next year. Also, one thing that Domineck I know brings well is his ability to block/pick up the blitz VERY WELL. So if he's not in there running next year, I would look to see him in there as the RB blocking some next year. We didn't handle the pressure well at UM though until the 2nd half. I think Lulay and the coaches were shocked by that in the first half as most teams weren't blitzing us that much and the ones that were we were toasting them on it. I guarantee you we will be prepared for next year when playing them for that. The game film won't lie on what they were doing. I'm sure we'll have some nice quick up and in routes put in there by next year for our slot/TE. I agree with Kramer that this years and next years OL could be one of the better OL's of all time for the Bobcats. Time will tell.CelticCat wrote:All I know is I wish we had PSU's OL. P.S - Who is all for MSU either moving Birkland OR Saucedo back to the DL? I really think we need one of those guys to move back in there so we have some size in there. This all depends on who we pick up of course in the offseason. But I would really like to get 2 DT of 275+ that can plug the middle and let our LB's roll into the gaps.
Jag: My point, and I believe the point for several here is this: the Big Sky Conference had 3 or 4 pretty good teams that could have been competitive in the playoffs.
I love beating the cats but you have to admit that they played us tougher than NW State and NHU did...and with SEVERAL key elements missing. Now, far be it for me to defend the cats, so I won't! But what I will do and say that PSU and msu, as 3rd and 4th place Big Sky teams, with a couple of breaks, are playoff teams...
The bottom line is this: there simply isn't that great a difference between the contenders in 1-AA and the middle of the pack teams. Sometimes a break here or there is all there is separating them...

Finally, a voice of reason. Jagur, you should take notes. This guy isn't a Cat fan either but can see the truth.Bozgriz wrote:Jag: My point, and I believe the point for several here is this: the Big Sky Conference had 3 or 4 pretty good teams that could have been competitive in the playoffs.

All I know is some of the following:
2002 - MSU plays #1 ranked team in nation tough! UM then plays them and plays them tough as well. 10 points or less each game was I think.
2003 - NAU knocks off/clobbers the #1 team in nation (3rd place technically in Big Sky)
2004 - EW knocks off the #1 team in the nation at their place and should have been even worse. UM clobbers NWS (#1 suppossed defense in the nation ... I SAY 'YEAH RIGHT' TO THAT). UM clobbers #5 (UNH) team in the nation.
I don't know about you, but I would think the Big Sky has had some pretty darn good teams the last 2-3 years. If we could start getting more of our Big Sky teams with home games (non grizzlies of course) we could do a LOT of damage in the playoffs in my opinion as a conference. However, until these stupid sportswriters back east keep trumping up their regional teams the only team that is going to gain a first round home game from the Big Sky is the Grizzlies and thats it. Next year I'm gonna email after email after email to Doherty to start giving the Big Sky the respect it deserves.
HOW BOUT SHOWIN US SOME LOVE .... 3 TEAMS in and some home games! That would be nice for a change!
And yes Griz fans .. from all of the above ... I don' think MSU was worthy enough to get in the playoffs. Had some breaks gone their way and they showed up against Sac. State maybe, but thats how the dice rolls. I don't want my team getting in the playoffs if they don't deserve to. And in my opinion, losing the last 3 you definately don't deserve it. I do think EW was better than a #16 seed EASILY and should NOT HAVE had to play SIU in the first round.

This is all correct and good. However, you have to take care of buisiness and have less than three or four losses to make the playoffs. If three BSC teams would do that, we might have a chance at getting three in. No matter how good you think the Cats were this year, the facts are that there is no way they were going to get a spot with four 1AA losses, and IMO no four loss team deserves a spot.CARDIAC_CATS wrote:All I know is some of the following:

I don't get it. Since roughly 2000 teams from the west have constantly shown they can play ball with East. But teams from the East dominate the at large bids in the playoffs.
If MSU or PSU were in the playoffs I bet they'd win at least the 1st game, esp if they played against an "eastern" team. I also believe Cal Poly would've made an "EWU-esque" run if they'd have been put into the playoffs as well.
If the Great West can get an automatic bid then that will help the "western" of the country to get some more recognition as well.

I wonder how a two division BSC (assuming the addition of some of the better Great West schools) would fare in playoff bids? I'm kind of assuming that it would bump us up into the A-10 category where people would just pencil in at least 3 or 4 teams from the BSC every year.Re/Max Griz wrote:I don't get it. As impressed as I am that Boise managed to go undefeated, they really seemed to have one of the least impressive undefeated season in the history of college sports. Going down to the wire with San Jose State alone really drops them in my personal view. They also played a schedule that was ranked in the Sagarin as about the same as most A-10 schools.Re/Max Griz wrote:I was just thinking, the lack of western respect showed up in 1A as well.

Watch, USC wins, but so does Auburn, and Auburn gets the NC!
It actually is funny to see how messed up the BCS is and to realise that 1AA really does know the better way to pick a national champion.
It is amazing what they have been able to do with that program, though. To even be mentioned as a Top 10 team after moving up from I-AA is very impressive.

If we had the size stadium as the friz and got the same gate...we could lure some of the eastern teams our way...but there's not enough money in it now for the teams to travel all that way.CARDIAC_CATS wrote:
