COMMIT: Small-School Lineman Makes Choice
The best small school lineman available has given his verbal commitment to a Division 1-AA school, to be exact, a Big Sky school. Tacoma Baptist's Neil Boyce, a first team all-state selection on both sides of the ball, is set as to where he will play the next four years.
"I am a Bobcat," said Boyce. He committed this past weekend when he visited the Bozeman campus.
The Bobcats finished 6-5 last season, although at one point Montana State was 6-2 and nationally ranked before losing consecutive games to Sacramento State, Eastern Washington and Montana.
Boyce's host on his trip was junior lineman Zach Wolfe, also a small-school product from Colton High School.
He said, "It is a really nice campus, and academically it was a little more challenging than some of the other schools I was looking at. There was more a variety in what they offered."
The variety will help, given that Boyce's major choices appear to be narrowed down to either education or engineering. The engineering is intriguing as MSU offers a course dealing with wetland reconstructions, something that appeals to Boyce. However, Boyce is also interested in coaching down the road - and in order to do that, he will need an education degree.
Another factor was the fact that the Bobcats offered Boyce a full ride, whereas his other offer was a partial from Eastern Washington, who entered this season with only the equivalent of eight scholarships to give out.
Boyce will be familiar with his blocking schemes, they are along the same lines as the ones he used at Tacoma Baptist. He added, "It will be a little more sophisticated, but overall the basics are the same general idea."
He expects to redshirt once there, as most incoming freshmen redshirt, unless either a large need exists or a player shows an ability that forces the coaching staff to play someone.
Boyce is glad to have the decision overwith, saying, "I am very very excited for this to be done. It's been kind of a headache for me and my parents - they've been worried about me making the right decision. I'm a country boy (Boyce commutes from small-town Roy to TBS), so it fits me perfectly."
WashingtonPreps.com congratulates Boyce on his decision.

Very nice pickup. I'm sure they will redshirt this guy, but I still think we need one more Rogers type DL in the middle for competition/depth. I think we are okay motor/talent wise on the DL, but we need a gap stopper that can motor as well in the 270-285 range still I think. Hopefully Matakis can bulk up some this year and be a rock in the middle as well. I just think we need one more unless they are going to be repositioning some people around from OL to DL etc.

Are you the same "Obzerver" that listed the Bobcats on another board as a team that "The rest of the country should have had a chance to see"?Obzerver wrote:Helcat, I hear ya and didn't mean to come off like that, as a ref I'm somewhat thick-skinned...no prob

No schollie offered yet. They are looking at him for defense. Are the running backs that good that they don't need him there???? I noticed that Dominick fumbled three times one game and then dropped an easy pass.

So is Brandon coming to MSU for sure? I think that he's a great player and will be a great addition to our team. I've also heard great things about his character, and I think that he will not only be a great addition to the team, but also to campus as well as the town of Bozeman.
I hope that he's excited about beating up on his older bro for the next 3 years.

Is he turning over a new leaf??? .......nah!
This smacks of a regurgitated and changed story about William Kofe who seemed to have done the opposite in committing to MSU a few years ago then going on his mormon mission. He recently verballed to ASU. Have some wires been crossed?

catatac, I've been saying that MSU was a team to watch since the minute I left Bobcat Stadium when we stole that victory, to anyone who would listen. Very similar to our loss vs Sam Houston State. gtapp, don't slam me here but I'm a Collegiate Soccer Referee, would never admit to being a BSC Ref(in Football)...
