Think of the scariest thing imaginable....he's right in there.

On a more serious note. Am I the only one, or does he also need a name change. Come on....Champ? Not very original. Here's my suggestion (after they get another suit)....Something to go along with Bobcats, shorten it up to "Bob", then lengthen it to "Bobby"!!! Yeah, that's a name I'm sure most Cat fans could fall in love with. :)

You might be onto something. He kind of looks like Bobby. The big head, pointed ears and furrowed brow. I'm wondering who the dig is on. Bobby H. or Bobby the mascot.

Well, sure - but it would take a quick trip further west out to Eugene to match the beak that Baby Hack sports!

The Tale of Monte as told to me.

Prior to the women’s game Monte was screwing around on press row,
messing with people's stuff etc. He was asked to leave but, shook his
head no, refused to leave, and taunted and taunted press row. He finally left when a
move was made to call security. The folks on press row did not do anything about it,
but Marla Denham, Big Sky supervisor of officials, saw the whole thing and talked to
Fields. Then during the game
Monte decided to have more fun and got, busy moving the little wooden steps that people
use to get up and down from the bleachers with, taking mops and some other game
management stuff... in other words, he was being a complete nuisance, and it was
affecting how the event was run. The Step thing was taken very seriously considering
that a lot of fans in that area were / are older. At half time of the Women’s game MSU
officials (maybe Fields maybe not) Had a conversation with Don Read UM AD and told
him what was expected of Monte. Read talked to Monte. Monte continued to be
disruptive to the event in the second half. So, when Monte got to the gym Sunday,
Peter Fields and the MSU game manager informed them that Monte was not welcome to
perform in Field house.

There is the feeling that, Monte is out of control and not even the UM officials can keep
him in line. He has also ticked off the Big Sky Conference.

Monte the Hat Stealer

Post by GreatLakesCat » Tue Feb 15, 2005 9:30 am

Also at the women's game, Dissly was having a chat with some friends in the endzone bleachers, when Monte came up to and started taunting him. Diss, knowing it was simply a fly on his shoulder, ignored Monte. Monte then proceeded to steal Nick's MSU hat and run away to put it in the garbage. Diss just sat there and didn't do/ say anything, but a few of the fans around him began to yell at Monte and threatening to kick him in his hairy balls. Monte returned the the hat, and when Diss was asked why he didn't kick Monte's ass he replied, "Savin it for tomorrow..."

Last year during a Billings Outlaws' areana game, Monte was the featured mascot. Well, I was listening on the radio, and the announcers were describing how Monte was on the field as the game was being played... Not just standing at the side watching, mind you, but actually getting into the teams' huddles, standing over the ball before the snap, obstructing the refs... basically being a major nuisance. Well, after awhile, both the play by play and color guy had had enough, and called Monte out for being a classless punk in a bear outfit.

I couldn't agree more.

It sounds like winning the ballot box stuffing contest for a credit card company's marketing department has gone to his head a bit.

I had a feeling this would happen. Just listening to how people praise Monte everywhere he goes, you had to figure he'd get a big head and think he could do whatever he felt like.

"Hey, I'm Monte...get the h#!! out of the way."

It gives you the feeling of where will Monte hit the wall. Looks like he did that at the Brick. Needs to use some common sense. The stuff described is just poor manners. For some on hand there is a job (namely ensuring the safety of paying customers) to do. I doubt anyone on press row want's to worry about some ass in a bear suit unplugging his laptop or radio/TV links. Maybe re-name him Mo-ron-te.

The thing is that the current Monte(s) are riding on the coat tails of the guy who deserves all of the credit. He won all the awards, they are just wearing the costume. They have nothing to hang there hats on the guy who won all of the Mascot award is working in Chicago right now.

FYI There is a good reason the Bobcat Mascot is named Champ. In fact
there is a published book entitled How Champ Got His Name. It was
written by Dr. Jerry Sullivan, MSU professor emeritus and illustrated
by his son Mark. Both are Montana natives and Graduates of MSU.
The book tells the story and ilustrates the process of finding a name
for the Bobcat Mascot. Actually a contest was held and the chosen
name was suggested by a Bozeman elementary student by the name
of Kalani Cowles. You can purchase a copy through the Alumni
Association. And by the way here's what Bobcat Legend Sonny
Holland had to say about the book and Champ. "Sullivan captures
the hearts of 'Cats young and old. Champ has and will forever kindle
the spirit of Bobcat pride for the Blue and Gold." Obviously a lot
more went into the naming of Champ than the naming of Montie.
Why didn't the Grizz just name him Yogi ?

True. The new Moronties aren't in his class, but they do a good job when they are doing the job. Maybe the new Monte would like someone to hold him down and take his head (costume head only) off and not give it back until after the game. That would be in line with the new Moronties theme, which seems to be, lets not just embarass someone, but also do something that hinders their ability to do their job.

Obviously you don't realize that Monte was given his name by a very ill old gentleman on his deathbed as his last wish. I think it is a great honor that his spirit lives on through the bear. :?

Monte's old name was Otto.
There is nothing stopping you from changing co-champs name....nobody knows the name now so it would be easy. A cat jersey with the new name on his back would do it.

I've was posting on your old free ESPN site years ago that you needed a new costume. The face is what is scary...the expression. he has the look of too many face lifts...like Joan Rivers.

I used to post that with all the engineers on campus you didn't have a good message board....you changed that.

Now get rid of the Mountain Lion sound track or change the name to the Montana State lions.

And that makes roughly ten times you have posted that exact same set of statements. You forgot the line about the scoreboard this time, though.
