I've got a thought. Next time someone asks for money to make the football stadium nice. Give the money to a cause in Bozo that helps people or is productive.
The Next time they hit me up for money for athletic improvements to Wash-Griz I'll give it as tip to our waitress in Msla who's working her ass off to get done with Pharmacy school and keep the debt below 10K. Maybe give it to the Chem Dept so they can update some lab equipment.
"Ah Gary you left a 1,000 dollar tip?"
"yea, use it on tuition or something."
Does anyone else have a problem with the College sports arms race as it's called. Does Nebraska really need to spend 25 million on a new weight room? The response always makes me laugh. Well yea, they also included a 10 million dollar computer lab dumb ass. My point being screw the new weight room build a 35 million dollar computer room. Maybe some smart 19 year old will do something to make the world smarter.

Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

Except then the waitress is excited to have this huge tip and finally goes out with the chemistry guy, who has been asking her out for 3 years, who you also just donated money to his program and the two of them end up getting married. They decide there really isn't much money in chem. or pharmacy so they combine their knowledge and open their own business making cutting edge steroids. They open Balco #2 somewhere around Lincoln and become mega-rich. They are so greatful for all the money the alumni donated to them that they want to give back to the school. The chem and pharm. department are loaded from donations so they try to help out the poor football team. They give the team a great deal on their new 'roids. The team gets huge and wins 5 straight national championships before they get caught. Then the NCAA suspends the entire team and the Bobcats win the Big Sky year after year and we lose to the Cats 17 straight years. Now that would suck. Be careful where you donate your money. The Next time they hit me up for money for athletic improvements to Wash-Griz I'll give it as tip to our waitress in Msla who's working her ass off to get done with Pharmacy school and keep the debt below 10K. Just spoke with some people up at the field house and they told me that there is going to be a big push for $$$. The money will go into renovations on the FB Stadium, Field House, Student Athlete Education Center and Strength Facility. They hope to receive between 30-40 million in about 2-3 yrs. The Stadium would be closed in and additional Sky Suites would be added. This renovation/expansion would ideally be completer in 3/4 yrs. Is this realistic or is this a pipe dream?

First response is that is a pipe dream, but the ability MSU has in raising money is incredible. What President Gamble has raised in his time at MSU seemed like a pipe dream just a few years ago. I would love to see MSU pull this fund raising feat off. I know I will contribute what I can.
This reminds me...is there enough interest from the BobcatNation members to look into adding a halftime clock for the tailgaters donated by us? I think this is something we all could do to contribute.

That is a good point about the monies that Pres. Gamble has brought in. I was told that Gamble is very interested in the project, and was going to be a major supporter.rtb wrote:First response is that is a pipe dream, but the ability MSU has in raising money is incredible. It was just a shade over 12,000 last year if I remember right. We will definately break that record this year as well so remember to get your season tickets so you don't have to fight for tickets before game time.mquast53000 wrote:Does anyone know what the exact average attendance was for 2004? I thought that it was around 12,000. Our current capacity is 13,200 I believe, so we are getting closer to needing those extra seats (we could fill 15,000 in 2005 for Cat/Griz & Homecoming for sure).

Looks to me like you missed your window of opportunity if beating the Griz is a part of the equation!gtapp wrote:It would have been hard to raise the funds the last ten years because of the performance of the football team. Now that the team is more consistent, has beat the Griz twice and the crowds are back; it would be a good time to try and raise the funds.
But you are correct about having a winning team help fund raising! Paying off a loan when seats sit empty is a pretty hard line to sell and nothing fills seats like winning!

Thanks for the reminder; without going into the official site, does anyone know what the family packs are going for? Plus, we'd better get a move on or that other bunch will be buying season tickets so they'll be able to watch what should be pretty embarrassing for them the last regular season game this year

Not to be a total downer, but this "if we build it, they will come" strategy won't work in Bozeman. Montana was able to do its stadium expansion since it knew that 4,000 seats would be filled by paying season ticket holders and use that money to finance the expansion with bonds that would be paid off by 2007/2008.
Montana State isn't in the same situation. First, there aren't 2000 butts to fill 2000 new seats (or however many the endzone would hold) at football games, otherwise those butts would simply take the current seats at Montana State. Second, Montana knew it could generate $180 per seat per year in direct revenue from sold season tickets. Montana State cannot sell those season tickets for more than current season ticket prices, which are $103 for sideline seats (no memberships required.)
Of course, this could change. In 2004, Bobcat tickets were not difficult to get, and the stadium was not particulary full (even for Eastern and Homecoming, which were both desirable games). But, the Bobcats will need a lot more football attending fans to justify the expenditure for stadium expansion.
