I'm not trying to be mean here, but that is one ignorant post. The SUB and HPEC renovations are probably the best thing to happen to MSU in the last 20 years. I'm as big of a Bobcat Athletics fan as anyone out there, but to suggest that we only spend money on the 1% of students who are also athletes is just plain dumb. Our SUB and HPEC are completely outdated and non-user-friendly. Improving these facilities will help incredibly with attracting students (and athletes, too) to Montana State. These facilities will become crown jewels of the MSU campus, and will facilitate our university's move into the 21st century. Not only that, but very little money will be spent by the university itself on these projects.longhorn_22 wrote:I do not agree with the way MSU has been spending their money. I don't mind the $26000 they spent on the new school logo, but they also want to spend about $12 million to rennovate the Student Union Building. The building doesn;t really need it and I think they could be spending their money on other things like the football stadium or the field house. Also, I have heard that AD Peter Fields wants to put a pivot system on the south bleachers of the football stadium which would provide more seating for track and field events. It would probably cost just as much to put in new bleachers close to the track and use the money to close off the corners of the football field.
On another note, I hope you are wrong about Fields wanting to put in a pivot system on the south bleachers. That is just stupid and wrong. If we did that, I don't see how we could "bowl" the endzone in, and isn't that the whole purpose we are trying to accomplish???

I'm not suggersting that all of the funds go to athletics but I think that a $12 million dollar rennovation as a little much. As for the pivot system for the football stadium, that is just what Fields wants to do. I do not see it happening though. It is just another one of his "dreams."BozoneCat wrote:I'm not trying to be mean here, but that is one ignorant post. Have you worked any construction or had any experience contracting? The costs of construction are astronomical right now, thankfully they are balanced out somewhat by low interest rates. $12 million dollars may sound like a lot of money, and it is, but it isn't that much when you consider the renovation to a building as large and all-encompassing as the SUB. Are you a student at MSU yet? If you are, I would doubt you would feel this way. The SUB is the social hub of the entire campus, and is sorely outdated. With the renovation, not only will the social aspect of it become much more user-friendly, it will also broaden and improve the wide-ranging other uses for the SUB, such as the black box theater and improved academic uses (computers, internet cafe, etc.). Finally, the school isn't paying for it - the students are. And they voted to do so by adding a large fee for just this purpose. I was thrilled to see our students vote with the future of MSU in mind, and not just by thinking they are out a weekend's beer money every semester.longhorn_22 wrote:I'm not suggersting that all of the funds go to athletics but I think that a $12 million dollar rennovation as a little much. As to the Fields thing, I agree with you that it would be hard to get the pivot thing done. I doubt that the boosters who will ultimately end up paying for much of the construction to the football stadium will be too excited about spending money on something stupid like that. The track team is already doing a good job raising money for the renovation of the track complex, I don't see why in god's green earth they would need the stands from the football stadium.

Dome the stadium? Them's fightin' words!!!2Cats wrote:Since becoming a Bobcat football Dad, I've given a considerable thought to facilities. In particular, what one project could the athletic department dedicate itself to that would benefit the players and fans and at the same time give the coaching staff an edge in recruiting. It's probably been a thread on this forum before but I'd like to see the university dome the stadium.
