Frank Brown, as a young adult, made a stupid mistake that I'm hoping he sincerely regrets. His athletic career is done, he lost his scholarship, will have a criminal record the rest of his life, etc.
In no way can I defend his poor decision, but I do hope that the girl can come out of it ok and Frank will go on to become a good citizen.
I'm sure that "statutory" rape happens on a daily basis across the nation, but strongly feel that student/athletes should be especially mindful of the decisions they make because they impact the image of the athletic community they're involved in.
Knowing the administration and coaching staff at MSU, I'm sure they're constantly reminding the student/athletes of this fact. Unfortunately, s**t happens.
All-in-all, I feel that with the the quality of student/athlete that MSU attracts, MSU has very few such incidents compared to other programs around the BSC and across the nation. 'Nuf said.

ANOTHER QUESTION THAT I HAVE IS WHY WERE HER PARENTS NOT KNOWING THAT SHE WAS SNEAKING OUT AND HANGING OUT WITH MSU BASKETBALL PLAYERS. SEEMS LIKE THEIR COULD BE SOME PARENTAL ISSUES TOO.....JUST A THOUGHT
Please don't tell me you are placing this on the parents
I'm sure they blame themselves enough
You obviously have no teenagers of your own. Teenage girls are very impressionable and when a big college basketball star pays attention to them their immature minds take over and common sense goes out the window. He maybe a nice guy but he did admit he knew her age and he still had sexual relations that is a CRIME having sex with a minor. He is an adult and should make the adult decision and say no if he is a really nice guy.
Question: How many of you out there would say he is a really nice guy who made a poor decision if this was your daughter, sister or neice who was raped

Hey, this is not a case of a guy dating a girl underage. This is a case of an adult raping a girl who was passed out after drinking...NO EXCUSE!

Just to clarify, there is no proof at all that anybody in this case had sex with anybody else when they were passed out. That's purely speculation based on the fact that the girl claimed she didn't remember having sex the previous night. I think most of us are familiar enough with alcohol to know that not remembering and being passed out are not always the same thing.

I DON'T AGREE WITH HIM SLEEPING WITH A 15 YEAR OLD AT ALL, THAT IS FLAT OUT DISGUSTING. BUT I THINK THAT SOME OF YOU ARE A LITTLE QUICK TO BLAME FRANK ON THIS. FIRST OF ALL THEY HAD HAD SEX BEFORE THE NIGHT THAT SHE PASSED OUT/BLACKED OUT. IF SHE DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT(I KNOW I KNOW SHE ISN'T ALLOWED TO CONSENT) THEN SHE WOULD HAVE FREAKED OUT AFTER THE FIRST TIME AND CRIED RAPE.
SOUNDS TO ME THAT THE GIRL GOT CAUGHT DRINKING WOKE UP IN HER NEIGHBORS BATHROOM FLOOR AND THEN SAID SHE WAS RAPED TO LESSEN HER BURDEN TO HER PARENTS. I AM NOT SAYING AT ALL THAT FRANK ISN'T 100% TO BLAME FOR DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL, BUT I THINK SOME OF YOU NEED TO REALIZE THAT HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE TO BLAME. AND I DON'T CARE TO SEE HIM GET BASHED ON THIS SITE CAUSE I THINK THAT HIS LIFE IS GOING TO BE MORE EFFECTED THAN THE GIRLS. HE IS GOING TO BE LABELED AS A RAPIST EVEN THOUGH THE GIRL WANTED TO HAVE SEX WITH HIM....

I think that all parties involved have some burden to bear here.
1) Frank Brown for obvious reasons.
2) The young girl for being around for the alleged second time.
3) The girls parents for allowing the girl to hang out with Frank. Weren't these two kids "dating" for over a year and a half. Kids can keep secrets pretty well, but dating a college basketball player and keeping that a secret? COME ON!
My girlfriend has an 18 year old daughter that I have known since she was twelve. Never once was there a guy that her mother or I didn't know about. Not once. We knew when she was having sex too, whether we wanted it to happen or not, it was going to happen eventually.
This is an all around BAD deal for everyone involved. It will have ramifications for everyones lives. That is the sad part.

Whether she wanted it or not Frank is the ADULT he should have said no and walked away both times.
Also it is statutory rape even if she said yes. Whether she had sex with him before or others is irrelevant he knew she was 15 and he had sex that is illegal. (I THINK IT IS DISGUSTING THAT YOU CAN EVEN PLACE BLAME ON THE VICTIM). What's next Frank is the victim because of his status as a athlete, she seduced him
Your right Frank's life is going to be effected but again he made the choice. This has happened to other MSU athletes unfortunately some even did time in the 80's & 70's and they have recovered to be productive citizens let's all hope Frank can do the same.

FACT IS FRANK IS TOTALLY WRONG IN THIS SITUATION AND HE IS TRULY THE ONLY ONE TO BLAME BECAUSE HE ADMITTED TO KNOWING HER AGE. BUT TRUST ME FRANK WILL GO ON TO BE A PRODUCTIVE CITIZEN JUST AS I HOPE THE GIRL DOES TOO. I WAS ONLY SAYING THAT HOPEFULLY SHE DOES GET ON THE STAND AND DEFEND HIM BECAUSE SHE WILLINGLY HAD SEX WITH HIM BEFORE.
IF EVERYONE THINKS THAT FRANK IS SUCH A BAD PERSON THAN WHY DIDN'T HE LIE AND SAY HE DIDN'T KNOW HER AGE? I THINK THAT SHOWS A LOT ABOUT HIS CHARACTER AND I THINK THAT IT TAKES A MAN TO ADMIT HIS MISTAKES.
LET ME ASK YOU THIS 4EVER....WOULD YOU HAVE ADMITTED TO KNOWING THAT SHE WAS 15 WHEN ALL THIS WENT DOWN? NOT SURE WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE BUT PROBABLY NOT WHAT FRANK DID.
WOULD YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY IF THESE 2 WERE BOTH FROM BOZEMAN, STARTED DATING WHEN HE WAS A SENIOR AND SHE WAS A FRESHMAN. AND THEN THIS SITUATION CAME ABOUT????

I would not have gotten myself in that situation in the first place. So I guess I wouldn't have to answer any of these questions above. What he said after was irrelevant. No woulda/coulda's on this one. He broke the law and is going to have to pay for it.AZCAT21 wrote:FACT IS FRANK IS TOTALLY WRONG IN THIS SITUATION AND HE IS TRULY THE ONLY ONE TO BLAME BECAUSE HE ADMITTED TO KNOWING HER AGE. I agree with Cardiac Cats, I would not have gotten myself in this situation. And also where they come from doesn't matter. If an 18 year old senior is dating a 14 year old freshmen and they had sexual relations that is statuatory rape and against the law.
I agree Frank telling the truth was a commendable thing to do. From what I understand though he did not have much of a choice but to tell the truth.
Don't try to make this into a race issue or an issue where the Bozeman Police are picking on MSU athletes it is clearly a man guilty of statuatory rape. And yes it got more publicity than others because of his high profile postion as a scholarship athlete. But when those athletes sign that letter of intent to take the university's money for their education they also agree to be held to a higher standard than others at the university, is it fair? NO, but it is reality.

WOW!! I AM DEFINITELY NOT MAKING THIS A RACE ISSUE! I WAS ASKING THE QUESTION AS IF YOU WERE IN HYPOTHETICALLY THE SAME SITUATION. I KNOW EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD CAN SAY THAT THEY WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE SOMETHING SO UTTERLY STUPID (SARCASTIC) OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE A BUNCH OF SAINTS THAT HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG IN THEIR LIVES AND IT WAS TOTALLY OUT OF PLACE TO POSE A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION!
I NEVER ONCE SAID ANYTHING BOUT RACE OR THE BOZEMAN POLICE. THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOB. AS FAR AS FRANK ONLY HAVING ONE OPTION ABOUT TELLING THE TRUTH, WELL I DON'T THINK THE COPS HAVE CONCRETE EVIDENCE THAT FRANK KNEW SHE WAS 15, UNLESS THE GIRLS PARENTS KNEW THAT THE 2 WERE HANGING OUT TOGETHER. AND IF THAT'S TRUE, THEN YOU MAKE THE CALL ON A 15 YEAR OLD HANGING OUT WITH A SOPHOMORE IN COLLEGE......
I WAS JUST USING THE REFERENCE TO 2 HIGH SCHOOL KIDS FROM BOZEMAN AS SIMPLY THAT, A REFERENCE. THEY COULD HAVE BOTH BEEN FROM BUFFALO NY FOR ALL I CARE, SAME SITUATION.

I would rather we not even talk about Frank Brown. He is no longer a student or athlete at MSU. He gave MSU a black eye and I don't even think he deserves that amount of attention he has been getting on this board. The more he is talked about on here, the more he is still associated with the University. Let the judicial process take it's course. The fact is we will not be seeing Frank back in uniform at MSU.

I'll throw in my thoughts on the whole case.
It's a case of various people doing really stupid things. Granted, I've never met anyone associated with the case, but that's what it all comes down to. Frank Brown made some terrible mistakes, as did the girl involved. As a result, two lives are much to worser.
There are no winners here. The court will determine appropriate consequences for both. There's enough evil in the world. Hopefully, we all have learned a bit about the terrible consequences of doing really stupid things. No one meant to ruin their lives when they went into that apartment on Remington Way that night. And, without doubt, sometime in the future, some other female will enter an apartment where some guy has planned activities without thinking. Don't be that guy/girl. Don't let your friends be that guy/girl. Don't even let your enemies be that guy/girl.
