Wazzu was asking coaches to take pay cuts. Yes they got some money from the departure of the other PAC schools but the TV money is gone. They are not in the position to pay off an entire contract.

They can't pay P4 money. They CAN pay G5 money. It would still be a massive raise for Vigen and is basically a good G5 job. Vigen should take it if offered.

It’s a better job than Choate took in Reno now that some of the better MWC schools, including Boise State, are reforming the Pac-whatever. Add in UNLV and whoever else and it’s a much better league than the MWC leftovers and includes the Fresno, Denver, and San Diego TV markets.

It wouldn't be the full amount of the contract value. The buyout would be the present value of the payments. I came up with $6.7 million to buy out Eck. That's still a lot but significantly less than the $8 million face value of the contract right now.

Yeah, I didn't know how buyouts are usually calculated, but I had heard what he is getting.

I don’t follow basketball as closely, so I didn’t know they’d offered him a job. I’m surprised he was being recruited. He’s a decent coach but his record isn’t very impressive yet.

After being burned so bad by Paul Wulff out of the BSC, I really doubt they will even reach out to Vigan or even Eck. Wulff was an alum with ties to WSU. I think Choate could be a candidate but they will probably go with the successful coordinator from the P4.

Wazzou is a terrible job at this point, I can't see Vigen going into such a doomsday situation. If he wants a bigger job one will come along later much better than this one. But one thing is for certain, the impact a coach leaving has on the program is so much greater now than it used to be. Have you paid attention to what has happened at Idaho since Eck announced he was leaving? So many of their players have entered the portal that I'm not sure Idaho would have enough to field a team right now. Quite a challenge ahead for the Vandals.
