Agree with aucat and everyone else who wants it to go away besides on Cat/Griz week. I joined full throat Brawl 2.0 but never join other games and tell anyone/everyone around me it's stupid the crowd pulls out ESG on other weeks.

During the NC broadcast of the ESG chant, the camera panned over to Victor Dawson sitting on the Redbirds bench. The look on his face went from sad, to a look of puzzlement of "Who the he*l are the grissLLy's, you just beat the Redbirds".

I always join in the chant when it is done, I absolutely hate when some idiot changes it to fit whoever we are playing..... I hear several eat sh!t Redbirds, that is just disrespectful, I respect everything about the Redbirds, I have no reason to trash them.
um on the other had is our rival, I was seated close to 4 Vol fans at the game and they absolutely loved it.
Other teams only wish they had a rivalry like ours.

This is the final step of taking over the reigns as big brother. You've already done it on the field. say it when you play us by all means. but these are wise words. well done.aucat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:37 amAt the Bobcat Bash in Nashville there were 7000 of us jammed in there but I BELIEVE that I heard our emcee, the great Bobcat Flint Rasmussen, politely ask the Bobcat fans gathered to get the griz out of our heads, get it out of our system, regarding the ESG chant.
After he said that the Spirit of the West band played our fight song and by god there were no gris inside anybody's heads! No ESG chant! Just GO CATS GO!
For the most part that was the case at the NC game but not always.
But think about it. We are playing Illinois State for the damn national championship. Why would we want to display that even in THIS game
the griz reside inside our heads when we chant ESG?? It makes no sense. I DON"T CARE if we chant it when we are PLAYING THEM, but I
hate to demonstrate to other teams that we allow the gris to reside inside our heads. When we are not playing the gris I couldn't care less about them. Which is why I have never ONCE even looked at their board, Egriz or whatever it's called. I'm focused on the Bobcats.

@cats2506 , I cringe and stop singing when we get to the F- the gris part of that song. Loop the ESG, and leave out the dribble part of that chant for a start?

You guys are all such babies. They didn’t even play Mony Mony after the UC Davis game this year. You can’t be serious saying that we “should be better than that” when we beat our rivals twice on the way to the national championship. Anyone who thinks we should take it easy on the Griz must be lucky enough not to have to interact with Griz fans in their life.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
Add me to the (growing?) list of people that feel it needs to go away with the exception of Cat/griz week. To me, it's not an issue of "they're in our heads" or "it's not classy". I look at it more like, why should Cat fans bother to give that school/program any more attention than they actually deserve. And they deserve very little attention. They are the second-class program in Montana, academically and athletically. I went to MSU way back in the day when we use to chant "Pooooooor grizzlies" whenever we had the upper hand. Personally, I hate even having to mention them in conversation...
By all means, chant it to the mountain tops during rivalry week. But that is THE only time that program should ever be mentioned in the same breath as MSU and Bobcat football.

There’s a big difference between “take it easy” on the grisLLies and choosing not to focus on them every week.GoodTimesAllTheTime wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 12:36 pmYou guys are all such babies. Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I'm with this 100%. It's so stupid to be doing that chant during the band playing the fight song at a September home game. Cat/griz? I'm right there with everyone. It's the only thing left that we do that gives them a legitimate reason to call us little brother. So dumb.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:56 am100% agree with all this.
I love it as much as the next guy DURING Cat/griz.
We don’t need to do it any other time. We’re better than that, we’re better than them. Let’s move on.

I think we're not saying we should "take it easy" on them, but rather that we shouldn't proactively make ourselves look silly by giving them attention they don't deserve. We're looking out for MSU -- not UM.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 12:41 pmThere’s a big difference between “take it easy” on the grisLLies and choosing not to focus on them every week.GoodTimesAllTheTime wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 12:36 pmYou guys are all such babies. Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I have long given up on the gris. I do not care about them. I think Colter is right, that the Cats were chasing um and that made them better. But, 4-5(ish) years ago the Cats long surpassed um and it was all about catching NDSU. It’s been about beating NDSU and winning a natty since 2019 when the Cats went to Fargo and got rolled. They learned that day what it was going to take. We have a great rivalry with um. And beating them in every sport is important. But in football, it’s all about winning the natty. Something um is a long ways from doing. Um will get better and will be in the conversation for winning the natty. Everything is cyclical. But right now, MSU is all about Nattys and should careless what um is doing.
Hating the griz since 02.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
Choate had a mantra...beat the grizzLLies all day every day. I view this as part of that mantra. I don’t see it that they're in our heads. I understand why some don't like it. And I'm glad to hear that it went down like you talked about. We definitely didnt need to be chanting it at the national championshipaucat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:37 amAt the Bobcat Bash in Nashville there were 7000 of us jammed in there but I BELIEVE that I heard our emcee, the great Bobcat Flint Rasmussen, politely ask the Bobcat fans gathered to get the griz out of our heads, get it out of our system, regarding the ESG chant.

To put a finer point on it, I often see the ESG GCG chant as our battle cry.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I don’t see how we are focusing on them every week. That’s just not true. They didn’t play Mony Mony at the stadium until the end of the second game against them. Some people chanting ESG during the fight song isn’t focusing on them every week.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 12:41 pmThere’s a big difference between “take it easy” on the grisLLies and choosing not to focus on them every week.GoodTimesAllTheTime wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 12:36 pmYou guys are all such babies. Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
Perhaps the fizzlies and ESG have become a metaphor for all Bobcat opponents, but likely not. I agree with most posters that the chant and Mony Mony lack relevancy outside of Cat/Griz and should be reserved to torment them during rivalry week. Even if all of BCN agreed to this, however, we may have more difficulty convincing a liquored up student section.

As a point of clarification, Flint attended the University of Montana -Western. He is a great ambassador for the Bobcats.aucat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:37 amAt the Bobcat Bash in Nashville there were 7000 of us jammed in there but I BELIEVE that I heard our emcee, the great Bobcat Flint Rasmussen, politely ask the Bobcat fans gathered to get the griz out of our heads, get it out of our system, regarding the ESG chant.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I'm in the camp that hates it when we are playing someone else and the crowd is chanting ESG. And, I probably hate them as much as anybody. But, IT IS NEVER GOING AWAY. So... here is my idea. Keep Mony Mony alive every game, but if we're not playing the Griz, it's "Beat The Redbirds, Go Cats Go!" Then, of Course, when do ARE PLAYING them... we go all out and bust out the real version. Give it more power that way too.
P.S. I'm all for hearing it all season long at parties, weddings, reunions, etc... just not when we're in a football game not playing them.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
The gris do not live inside my head. I can very easily scream the chant at the top of my lungs anytime the fight song or Mony Mony is played and once it's done, I move on to something else. They do not, and will not ever "live" in my head. If you're worried about what people think, then they are living in your head.
