Last year the Griz beat Idaho 41-28 and Idaho had to scrounge up a touchdown with 35 seconds left to even get that close. This game was over after the first play. Barely?? What was the last 1-A school the Cats beat?El_Gato wrote:the Griz have been among the 10 best teams in 1AA (much as we hate to admit it), and have somehow managed to BARELY beat the lowly Vandals of Idaho...
MSU will beat CSU

WYCAT: Griz beat them in Pullman the year before.
(yes the Griz played Idaho in WSU stadium proving catatacs point about Idaho being 1-A)
I'm unclear why cat fans are so proud of going to WSU, CSU, Wyoming....losing against the 2nd string and claiming it was close. Is it becouse the Alumni fan base likes going to 1-A stadiums? I still can't believe how many cats are going to C. Springs. I think you guys like losing in some wierd way.

WHYBEACAT, I agree that Idaho is not a huge 1-A win, but the Griz have beaten them 4 times in a row. That means that two of those wins were on their turf. I don't see how this is something you or any Cat fan can see as something to smack about.

Lets see ... WSU was playing their 2nd string QB because Montoya put their starter out in the first quarter (was it a detached sternum??) ... kind of like the hit he put on Oches last year in Cat/Griz gamejagur1 wrote:WYCAT: Griz beat them in Pullman the year before.(yes the Griz played Idaho in WSU stadium proving catatacs point about Idaho being 1-A)

Another thing playing the bigger schools does is get your team some local/national exposure. This helps in recruiting and in picking up transfers coming down from 1-AA etc. Plus, after we play a good team, its gonna be so much easier when we play the Griz (especially against their defense). The better the competition the Cats play early, the better they will be in the Big Sky conference games.
P.S - I'm bringing some Jaeger

Griz fans travel to BFE routinely to watch them play against teams that 90% of the sports fans in the country haven't heard of (and wouldn't care if they did), and then pat themselves on the back for being super fans (and make a point of never letting anybody forget about it). Bobcat fans travel to Fort Collins (C. Springs is the Air Force Academy) to take in a Bobcats game in a great college football setting in a nice town near Denver, and you express disbelief. I'm shocked anyone would travel to Sam Houston State, quite honestly. I don't care if my team had a great chance to win or not -- there's something to be said for traveling someplace that you would actually want to go.jagur1 wrote:I still can't believe how many cats are going to C. Case in point -- me not liking the National Championship being in 'Nooga.

Jagur1: We never saw any of Wyomings second string last year and CC is correct we really should have come out of that game with a win. We outgained them on yardage and TOP and really controlled the lines of scrimmage. We lost the game on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and several critical TO's. No way did we not belong on the field with Wyoming.
As far as WSU, like I said they were in the top 10 at the time and we still were not embarrassed. Their speed, size, depth, etc. wore us down but still a great game and it is a good tool for recruiting as well as something to build on when we go into BSC games on the road. I would bet most of the players would rather play in that type of setting than against Idaho in Pullman too.

Sounds like Wyoming won the same way the Cats did over the Griz ...... TO's/Special Teams .... so from a Griz point of view, lets just say the CATS won and we gave WYoming the winWYCAT wrote:Jagur1: We never saw any of Wyomings second string last year and CC is correct we really should have come out of that game with a win. Here it is -- thanks for pointing it out:
http://www.mtstandard.com/articles/2004 ... jbebfj.txt
I just read through the article quickly, and I didn't notice it actually quoting Lubick anywhere. It just goes on and on about how what he said was wrong, but doesn't tell us what exactly he said.
It looks like it was written by a guy in Denver, and picked up by the Butte paper off of the wires.

I saw that one too raincat, it is actually written by somebody for the Rocky Mountain News, but very interesting to see the Butte paper pick up an article like that about Lubick. Contrast that article to the one in the Great Falls today.
Anyway, the article blasting Lubick can be found here: CSU in heart of whine country

Good question, BAC. I remember Sonny being taken to task about getting crushed by USC and he said something like, it's a good thing we don't play them 10 more times because the outcome would likely be the same every time. Maybe this writer is keying off statements like that. How soon they forget. CSU could still win the Mountain West championship, let us not forget. I did bring it up primarily because it was in the Butte paper. Somehow I visualize an old bus leaving Butte with a load of guys with last names ending in "vich", joyusly heading for Denver to kick that writers a$$.

Actually, after perusing the ramnation boards a bit, there are plenty of CSU fans that were none to happy about Lubick's feelings either. Here are some stories that talk about it:
Lubick prefers softer slate
Lubick: No one to blame but me
Lubick: Schedule too much to ask
Executive overview is basically that he is taking the blame for CSU being 0-3 because he scheduled three tough BCS games to start the season.
Seems the inferences that many CSU fans are taking away, and after reading the quotes I would say with good reason, is that Lubick is saying the CSU is a second class school that has no business trying to play with the big boys in the BCS. May be the truth but tough to hear your team's coach saying something like that.

My 2 cents. Most games are set up 3 or 4 years in advance. USC was a home and home that started last year so game was set up in Pete C's first year? USC was way past being considered good. Suddenly Pete C becomes Knute Rockne as a college coach, brings in Norm Chow and recruites all the Southern Cal studs instant NC. (Bad luck for CSU)
MN. Gophers same deal. They get two good underclassman Running backs and are no longer Big 10 bottom feeders.
Got to play Colorado, everyyear so no way out of that one. CU is usally good but CSU has pulled of a number of upsets. Just like UM and MSU, got to play the U of M and once or twice a decade pull off an upset.
No use for Sonny to whine about it, just some bad luck. Should have set up a home and home with Cal Bears 4 years ago....oh I mean Nebraska.

No, those weren't upsets .... they were wins given to MSU by the Griz according to Griz fans (plus the wind was blowing during both of those
