Yes we are. New Mexico, UNLV, Cal, Baylor, Michigan State. Sure, some of those are P4. But they’re terrible.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 7:29 pmExactly. And one of many reasons I'm not bitter if some of these young guys want to look elsewhere. They are looking at possibly getting paid significant $ to play for some of the top teams in the FBS Power 4. (Both Penn State and IU are excellent academically as well) Hard to blame guys for taking that type of opportunity.
We need to make sure we are funded as well as we can for NIL, and the NCAA needs to fix the broken system. But we are not losing top starters to mid Group of 5 teams.

Cal and Baylor were both bowl teams and P4 Michigan State was P4 Also we lost a guy to Arkansas who had more receiving yards with them than he did with us. UNLV went 10-4, and our transfer there went to the Big 12 the following year. The only "bad" transfer was Humphrey, and it's already been discussed how he didn't handle things well. Most of those degrees are also more valuable outside our region than an MSU degree.CodyCat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 7:33 pmYes we are. New Mexico, UNLV, Cal, Baylor, Michigan State. Again, I'd love folks to stay here. I think loyalty has value and should figure in to considerations. You also never know whether you end up going from a great situation to a bad one. Montana is a great state and if you might want to settle here we have a great package. If your #1 priority is winning football games it's hard to beat what we offer. Vigen is a great coach and there is outsanding community support. But playing Power 4 is a easier ticket to the league and these guys can often get paid a lot and get a nationally valuable degree to boot. I'm not going to look at things through such blue-and-gold colored glasses that I'm can't understand why guys, particularly those from out of our area, might find that appealing.

Everyone should listen to this. This was a great pod about what being an athlete in the community you played in, after football, means.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 6:07 pm
Gregorak talked about Ifanse extensively and specifically in our hit last week:
Great stuff Colter.
And I think the vast majority of fans still see Isaiah as a Bobcat and no issues. He used his covid year for Pete's sake. Without covid he doesnt play that year for us anyways.
And Prukop still actively cheers for the Cats. He went to Oregon. Top level stuff. The fact that he chased the top level is something we should be teaching kids. Try. Its an admirable thing to do.

Ifanse was the running backs coach for Sacajawea middle school's 8th grade team in Bozeman this year. One of my sons played against them and their RBs killed us. He's very invested in the community.
Guys who play up can't help but have a positive view of our team and their experience here as long as we don't have alumni yelling at them. That's great for future recruiting.

Ifanse was in Bozeman for five years. That’s a lot different than a redshirt freshman leaving. I’m not saying the latter is a bad person— hate the game, not the player— but there’s a really big difference.

Was it you @Colter_Nuanez who interviewed him last year? I vaguely remember an interview he did where he was extremely high up on MSU and encouraging those he coaches to attend if given the chance.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:24 pmPrukop was in Nashville all decked out in Blue & Gold!lutecat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:40 pmEveryone should listen to this. I wish all the best to the guys who take their future into their hands and take their shot (whether moving up for the bag or moving down for playing time). Thanks to all of them for their time as Bobcats. They’ll always be part of something great that hadn’t happened since their parents were youngsters.

Definitely thought this one would happen. I always was curious what that 1 trick play, believe was called dead on a false start, was going to be with him and Lamson.

Figured Chance would leave, can't blame him.
Ifanse is a GREAT guy and he has lived in BZN since his Cal days
Saw some talk about Vigen being a QB. Watched him a lot in HS and he doesn't fit our dual threat scheme at all. He's a good athlete and I could see him at TE or on D

Best of luck to Chance, who I think has a lot of ability and will thrive in the right spot.
However, I think the biggest news here is that it strongly indicates to me that Lamson is very likely staying (which I actually thinks makes sense for him and his future even if a FBS team shows him the money.) If Lamson were leaving, the QB competition would be wide-open and it would be hard to imagine Wilson transferring. So this indicates to me that he has pretty good reason to think Lamson is sticking around.

I don't see any way Lamson leaves. This season couldn't have gone better for him and he's locked in as a starter with a chance to go back-to-back next year and leave here as the greatest QB in school history. If he were to leave it would be for a sure starting spot on a middling G6 or a dogfight for the starter role on a good G6, which he could lose and be back on the bench.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:56 pmBest of luck to Chance, who I think has a lot of ability and will thrive in the right spot.

Was afraid of Chance leaving. He was a year early, with Lamson coming in with two years left. But I was also surprised when Chance came up #3 on the depth chart. In that case we’re losing him anyway. Tantalizing player here, he might have been big in the +1QB role. Chance, go do well.

Never say never but I tend to agree. Lamson has been there, done that, and went through four years of adversity and uncertainty before finding a place he has been able to excel and show the nation what he's capable of. To me the only way he was going to leave was to follow Vigen if he went first.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:13 pmI don't see any way Lamson leaves. Yeah, plenty of other factors too. The big one is that these guys are super competitive, and they (or most of them) want a chance to compete against the best.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:38 pmCal and Baylor were both bowl teams and P4 Michigan State was P4 Also we lost a guy to Arkansas who had more receiving yards with them than he did with us. And there are other factors...better access to training...maybe a chance to be closer to home so your family and friends can watch...theres an opportunity for better money (although I don't think that plays out for most of them)
Lots of just trying to find the best overall fit.
