I also think it mattered that Julius, Rohan, and Blake went out. Next man up handled it so well it's not even mentioned, but those 3 out on offense (as well as Scottre) may have changed our plan a bit and put us into more of a vanilla look. That we still maintained and ultimately extended our lead and dominance is pretty damned exceptional.
And, yes, I'm willing to say that the Griz defense did pretty well. Both can be true!

This is my thought as well. I give credit that the griz D actually looked solid against our run game for a good chunk of that game.BobcatBlood wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 10:18 amI also think it mattered that Julius, Rohan, and Blake went out. That is in part a credit to them, but don’t discount the difference of not having our two top RB’s, both which have more of a physical style of running and without Rohan, one of our more physical blockers.
Jones played great, but he’s not necessarily a run it between the tackles 20 times a game type RB right now, and that’s what he had to become on Saturday. It eventually wore them down and we run for 320+ anyway, but I think the gris D would have been worn down earlier had we had Davis and/or Scottre available to beat them up more earlier in the game.

This right here! If the 3-headed monster played Saturday, the score would have been much higher. When they only had one guy to stop they looked okay. But then as the game went on they couldn't even stop him, or Coon either.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 11:39 amThis is my thought as well. Coon, to my old eyes test, seems to be a more between the tackles type of dude. Although, not a huge dude, he seems to love contact and the few times he has played I have been extremely impressed on how he just pops out of a messy pile at the LOS.nanacat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:21 pmThis right here! Question on this. Is it possible Davis got most of reps for certain formations/plays with Jones getting others more to his skillset. When Davis goes out we get a little more conservative on run plays, hit a couple passes. Then at half they adjust to what they can do with Jones to finish up knowing Davis and Humphrey are out.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 11:39 amThis is my thought as well. I just finished watching the 1st quarter, always able to see so much more on a telecast than you can from the SRO grass hill…
Anyway, on the griz opening possession that sure looked like an INT from Polidore…
I didn’t think so in real time at the game, but seeing it on tv I think otherwise now.

If you slow it down you can definitely see it bounce.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 3:40 pmI just finished watching the 1st quarter, always able to see so much more on a telecast than you can from the SRO grass hill…

I do think at 02:33:24 in the video it's very close on whether Fontes fumbles out the back of the end zone before his knee goes down. He starts to transfer from his right to his left hand before the knee is down, and never really has it with his left hand as his foot rolls up under him. Likely stands on review, but it's close.

I was impressed with how MSU answered nearly every UM opportunity Saturday.
First UM won the toss and MSU answered with one of its best drives of the year.
Then UM kicked a long FG to cut it to 7-3 and the Bobcats answered with the great pass and catch from Mellott to Rohan Jones.
Then UM got the second half kickoff and drove into MSU territory but was stopped there.
Then the Griz got the ball downs but went three and out.
Then they pinned MSU on the five and Jones went 88 yards to set up TD.
Lastly, the Griz scored and got two-point conversion, then MSU had a drive like its first and scored after about six minutes off the clock.
MSU held the ball for 10:05 of the final 10:47, and the first 8:59.

That's really impressive! Coaches calling plays and players executing. Such a great team!TomCat88 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:02 pmI was impressed with how MSU answered nearly every UM opportunity Saturday.

That was one of my favorite aspects of the game; ball control. That first nine-minute drive told me it was going to be a long day for the Cats. And that's what happened; Vigen and company drug them out to deep water and... well, you know the rest.nanacat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:45 pmThat's really impressive! If it's about how you start and how you finish, then this is textbook. 19:04 to 0:42 and 14-0.Bobcat Sig wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:00 pmThat was one of my favorite aspects of the game; ball control.
