If he does get the job, the Cougs open against none other than the Idaho Vandals next fall!

I agree with both of you, and respectfully, that says a lot a lot.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 7:32 pmCataholic cordially agree about something, so I think this is pretty much settled.Cataholic wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 5:53 pmThis is correct. WSU is basically now equivalent to how we would have traditionally thought about a Mountain West job.
I would never consider it desperation for an FCS head coach to take a head coaching job at a Mountain West school.
If Vigen has his sights set on competing as a coach at the Power 4 level, WSU is a sensible stepping stone.

Yeah, they should just go with the interim guy-he seems to know what he's doing.

I was rooting against WSU cause screw them but this post makes me think I was wrong. Maybe the interim coach should get the job. Go Cougs!BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 8:05 pmYeah, they should just go with the interim guy-he seems to know what he's doing.![]()

Is "HC to Wazzu" going to be the meme that replaces "star player to TCU?" I just heard from a friend that it might.

Ohio State (Jim Tressel). Stanford (twice-Troy Taylor and one of the Harbaughs). Colorado (Neon Dieon). Those are just off the top of my head.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 7:01 pmWhen I think about where the highest end FCS coaches have gone (Wyoming, Kansas State, UNLV), Washington State seems reasonable.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:36 pmI mean, they're no New Mexico, but you'd think someone with Vigen's resume would prefer a slightly more stable stone than WSU. Isn't that kind of why he waited for a job like MSU to leave Wyoming? The word back then was that he'd had opportunities before we came up but wanted something worth moving on for. An FBS job is an FBS job but the future doesn't look promising over there. Maybe he thinks it's the right time and place but maybe he doesn't.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:25 pmI don't know about this.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:17 pmWSU is a "desperate to move up" kind of job and Vigen doesn't seem the desperate type.

My guess is that he’s negotiating with them and will only take it if certain demands are met.
Was it Wulff that went to WSU back before they got relegated to G6? Jay Hill at BYU may be a DC, but thats a far better job in pretty much every possible way (except for a 15% pay cut).
If I were Vigen, I'd be looking for an OC job with a playoff contender or an HC with a power 4 team.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
You seem to be cherry picking. Each of your examples have special circumstances. Jim Tressel was at nearby Youngstown State for 14 years and won 4 National Championships with them. He was a known commodity for many years in Ohio. Troy Taylor was a well known football commodity with connections and well respected in Northern California football. Harbaugh and Dion had way more credentials and marketing hype than their FCS experience. I don’t see how any of your examples above are comparable to Vigen getting a P4 head coaching job.onceacat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 10:19 pmOhio State (Jim Tressel). Why is not okay to call out rumor mongering?
We don’t need this
The team doesn’t need this
It was for clicks and hits

Tom gave his mia culpa. He has more inside information than 99% on this board because of his job as being a reporter focused on the Cats. If his breaking news, albeit possibly/probably erroneous, ruined anyone's Christmas, that's on them. I prefer having an insider like Tom providing us with good insightful information on a regular basis than having no information at all.

This thread...Damn, it's going to be a very long 9 days until we actually get to watch one more game of football with the current team and coaching staff in place.
