Re: scrimmage today. For those of you attending what are you hoping to see?
First at quarterback waiting to see how Lamson handles pressure and throwing the ball. He’s been a little quick to make decisions when getting pressure. Hoping he handles that situation better today. if he handles the pressure, he will be the guy otherwise the competition will continue.

At receiver, I want to see whether or not the quarterbacks and receivers can take the top off the defense first of all. Secondly, I’m interested to see tight ends thrown into the mix.
Want to see how well our tight ends block for the running game.
Running back stay healthy and deep.
On the offensive line, want to see what shakes out in the too deep where everybody is placed.
Defensive questions to be answered, or will the corners be able to cover larger receivers and are they physical enough at the point of attack when they need to tackle.
Nickels and safeties I want to see who shakes out in the too deep and be physical at contact.
Hoping to see improvement at linebacker in Reeds and getting to the ball side to side
At defensive end who are gonna be Guy’s number four and five after Eiden, Crews, Parsons
At defensive line who will step up beyond the first five of Brott, Eckert, Marsh,
Sharbono and Black?

Does anybody know if the scrimmage will be 1 v 1’s or 1 v 2’s?

I believe they will mix it up to try to get some clarity on a few positions

This made me chuckle... probably some truth behind that typo!

All add more later and was only there until 10 before I had to get to the Potatoe Festival. I saw more completed passes, by all the QB’s, up the middle for 5 and 10 yard games than I have seen in a scrimmage in a long time. That really hasn’t been apart of the offense for a while. That alone could really open playbook.

QB’s weren’t live, but all looked fairly poised and patient in the pocked.

Lamson completed 16 of his 18 pas attempts for 145 yards and two touchdowns. The Cats finished 37-50 passing with four touchdowns and one interception.

Hard to say without being present, but that doesn’t bode well for the secondary.

Bobcat receivers combined for 60 catches in 2024. I’m taking the over this year.

Combination for sure. Secondary is raw, young but athletic. They got some good things on film today.

I witnessed passing into tight gaps, pockets, and over the middle that I almost forgot existed until today. No knock on Tommy, as he is GOAT, but that wasn’t there for the offense the past couple years. The offense will look a bit different this year. As expected.

I’m in the Duchien camp. But fully trust the coaches. I missed QB1’s last couple drives as I left early, it sounds like they were good!

Between the scrimmage yesterday and Colter's interview with Austin Parr this week, it sounds like Lamson has it locked down. Pretty excited to see how the offense looks and specifically what looks different in the passing game. I think the secondary is going to be fine and is likely to be the position group that improves the most as the season goes along. Those young corners are a fast, athletic bunch they just need to play. I think the safeties and nickels are low key a very strong part of the roster, esp with the 2 transfers for depth.

I think the numbers would have been similar in the spring scrimmage, there just was a ton of drops. Some of this, hard to say how much, is also Sterbick’s offense, although nothing revolutionary, he is keeping them run first in some wild formations and then starts dumping middle of the field passes. Per Sterbick’s interview, sounds like Vigen is giving him tons of control on the offensive side and the players are loving it.

Yes, hard to say. Lots of different ways to slice stats, especially from a scrimmage. Take out Lamson's 16-18-0, 145, 2 (193.2) and you're left with 21-32-1, 242, 2 (143.5). You have to consider that the defense, including the secondary forced 3 and outs on the first two possessions and didn't allow points on the next two. Like, you said the passers did well in spring, too, but if you look back at the previous springs they did well then, too. Spring '24: 20-29 185 yards; 26-42 316 yards. I don't recall any QBs doing that against MSU last year.

My big takeaway is 16-18-0, 145 and 2 TDs is really good against any defense. Maybe he was just hot, maybe the WRs were making great grabs, maybe the bulk came against 3s. Hard to say, indeed.

My only slight concern is that 8 yards an attempt is a little low. Reminds me of Drew Brees, works great until someone holds you to less that 75% completion percentage.

It’s hard to piece together from just a box score. My guess is that they didn’t attempt many deep passes. The longest pass play is likely 25 yards to Lencioni. Vigen had 44 yards on 2-4, so he probably threw the 20-yarder to Kornachuk and a 24-yarder to??? I would guess Lamson’s tds were to Lencioni and Woods. Wilson’s two to Mady and Jordan Reed. Just a guess though. I wonder if Wilson’s int was his fault. If it wasn’t, then he had really good numbers as well.

I don’t think any QBs went live. I think Wilson was live last year in this scrimmage.

Davis and White didn’t have any carries so I assume they didn’t play for prevention purposes. I hear Breslin looked good. I hear Lamson looked great.

Were there any player or coach interviews after the scrimmage? I haven't found anything in my limited searching.
