You better have thick skin if you are being paid to play or coach a game! No matter what you do there will always be critics around to point out your flaws when you are in the public spotlight playing sports. I don't think message boards increase the need for thick skin.Bleedinbluengold wrote:One thing is for sure - any coach, recruit or player who reads these things better have pretty thick skin.

jagur: That reminds me of a few years ago when I looked at the Vandals and Broncos boards from time to time. Talk about hate! They went way over the top; our rivalry is tame in comparison. This board has toned it down a lot by segregating the smack. You can have a (somewhat) intelligent discussion, without everyone being inflamed by trolls. I don't usually even look at the smack board, since it's mostly nonsense. One thing that might help is to automatically send certain posters to the smack board for consistently trolling. Mr. bearbac might be a prime candidate.

Prior to sources like BobcatNation I subscribed to the friday, saturday and sunday editions of the Bozeman Daily Cronicle during football season. I thought it would be the best source of information for Bobcat football, and maybe it was. After you "read" BobcatNation for a while you get to know who consistently brings good or useful or entertaining or speculative information to the board. Often, like Velo, they back things up with links to other sources. Many of the so called "fringe" or "rabid" Bobcat faithful have connections inside the locker room or the dorm or elsewhere on campus and that brings speculative tidbits our way. I'm constantly amazed by the weird form of sevelity that is composed on this board. Even "outsiders" tend to stay inside the the yard lines, and enemy posters like whitemeat, jagur and friends actually help build the entertainment factor. Althought I long ago dropped the Chronicle I can still pop in on their website and look at the sports page. Occasionally there is a professional and well written piece, usually of a biographical nature about one of our fine student athletes. But I cannot recall a single time I found a news item that hadn't at least shown up on BobcatNation hours, if not days before. Call it what you want, but it's (tongue in cheek here....or TICH if you prefer) BobcatNation is only a little more biased and a lot more accurate than Dan Rather.

The only question I have for Mr. Welch, is am I (Mslacat) a "fringe or rabid" fan. I like the idea of being discribed as "rabid" anything, but living over here in Missoula, gosh, I think I might be Mr. Fringe!
BTW. I found an old email to me where an MSU folk, described to me what his take on Mr Welch is. I wonder if he would like to hear what the folks at MSU think of him!

I think it's a little more basic. The Nation has ripped the daily chronicle fairly often for their coverage (not all the time and they have been compliments), but the writer obviously reads the pages and might be a little sensitive and insecure.
An easy way to get back and to gain attention is to make fun of what many of his readers enjoy (not a good practice for a professional that wants to live in a small college town).
He got want he wanted and he is probably enjoying the reading of you'all being worried.
Don't be, just enjoy the moment.

I don't think he needs the article to do him harm -- Welsch has discounted Welsch's credibility as a sports reporter/sports editor. He wrote an article when he first came about how there was a new sheriff in town and things were going to be "professional" from now on.Whiskers wrote:Do you think that printing an article like this, and presenting it the way he did, should discount Welsch's credibility as a sports reporter?
Hahahahahahahaha!
Look at the feature article on the game just to the right of the bobcatnation-bashing article -- the score of the game is listed in big print as 62-59!
Hahahahahahahaha!
Just one of a plethora of messups lately on the Chronicle Sports page.
Professional?
No credibility at all.

i think it was in bad taste of him to discredit message boards, i haven't posted much here, but i read a lot of stuff here. i've found i found out more usefull info. here than in the chronical, you have ppl who have different opinions, and other ppl who know what's going on before the paper. that's what makes a message board great, like jazzfanz.com for example, i go there for all of the utah jazz info.
