Wait a second, other posters claimed the kid was coming from Arizona State, this one is from Arizona, which is it? Too many different stories right now, I'll wait until we get a bit more solid information.bobcatbeliever wrote:Here is a link to the DT from Arizona that will be playing for the Bobcats next year.

nice work bobcatbeliever. I wonder why this hasn't been announced yet. He's here on campus and enrolled in classes. He looks like exactly the type of player that we need. A big guy in the middle to plug some holes and make plays. Along with Neal Boyce, we should have some beef up front for the next few years....provided we don't shift anyone over to OL.

Kolone adds great depth along the Defensive Line for the Wildcats.
Rancho Bernardo (CA) high school strongside defensive end/defensive tackle Chris Kolone committed to the Arizona Wildcats in the middle of November. He took his official visit to the Tucson campus in December. He recently took an official visit to UA arch rival Arizona State. Did the Devils make a big enough impression on him to change his mind?
"No Sir," said Kolone. "Arizona State was really nice and everything but I just loved everything about U of A."
"I am a Wildcat, no doubt," he said. "I am going to fax my letter in to U of A tomorrow morning early."
In the end Chris said that the city of Tucson and the coaching staff were the mitigating factor in his final decision. "I liked Tempe and everything but Tucson was smaller and had a real college atmosphere," Kolone remarked. "I got along a lot better with the coaches and the players at Arizona. The city of Tucson, the college and the people were all perfect for me."
He continued, "Coach (Kasey) Dunn talked to me a few times and he is a great guy. I am really happy to be a Wildcat."
So what does Kolone think about the future of Arizona Football?
"People better get their tickets now, because everything is going to change, Oklahoma style," he said.
Chris Kolone is a Rivals 2-star sleeper at defensive end. He has a very high ceiling according to many scouts and is a very ‘coachable’ player. Kolone will most likely red shirt in 2004 while he work into the defensive tackle spot, which is where he is projected at the collegiate level. He committed to Arizona in November and recently had taken an official visit to Arizona State but remained committed to Arizona. Kolone has signed his Letter of Intent.

ASU wrapped up it’s official recruiting visits a little over a week ago and when they did they brought in a commitment from arch-rival Arizona. Chris Kolone a 6-foot-3 265-pound defensive tackle prospect from Rancho Bernardo high school in San Diego (CA) visited ASU the weekend of the Jan. 23 and had good things to say about ASU.
“Everything is pretty much the same at ASU I had a great visit though.” “I was hosted by Brandon Rodd who’s from Hawaii and he’s a great guy.” “I also like coach Monachino and he’s a really nice guy and he’s always making jokes and stuff he really cares about his players.” “The thing I like most about my visit was the players at ASU they’re a great bunch of guys.” I like all the guys at ASU they’re players and how everybody hangs out together and get along they’re all really close as a team.” stated Kolone.
Kolone committed back in November to the UofA but ASU coaches kept recruiting him even after tha commitment. The coaches then lined Kolone up with an official visit which the defensive tackle took. Kolone is a big strong defensive tackle who could come in and have an impact as a freshman. So with decision day coming on Wednesday does Kolone feel any less comitted to Arizona?
“It will be a Wednesday decison for me between ASU and UofA.” “I haven’t fully decided who I’m going to sign with but I like both schools.” stated Kolone.
ASU could very well pluck a defensive tackle away from arch-rival Arizona down in Tucson and hopefully Wednesday will be a day filled with good news regarding some of the top defensive line prospects who ASU is targeting.
DEFENSIVE LINE
The Cats are almost cursed at defensive tackle. Injuries, suspensions and departures have left the Cats with almost no depth. In less than a month the Cats lost three key reserves and a starter. Freshman Chris Kolone left the team to attend to a family crisis, Yaniv Barnett was suspended following a second drug arrest and Jonathan Turner dislocated his elbow. Starter Paul Phillip injured his shoulder and missed two games. He may go this week, but won’t be 100%.
Quite a bit of info on this guy, which is rare for Big Sky recruits.Height: 6-1
Weight: 282
40 time: 4.9
Bench: 365
Squat: 445
From: Poway, California
High School: Rancho Bernardo
"They offered me right after my junior year and I decided I really wanted to be a Wildcat so I called up coach Bernstein and I committed," said Kolone.
Kolone was recruited to UA as a defensive end which is his position of preference. He had no other offers before commiting but was receiving heavy attention from Colorado State and Oregon State. He was set to visit both but has now cancelled those visits. He will be in Tucson on December 12th. It will be his third trip to town after coming for Junior Day and unofficially for the USC game.
He says his school does not really keep track of stats but that he has around seven sacks on the year. Chris describes himself as a player with a good pass rush that is quick off the ball. His ideal playing wait would be a "cut-up" 275.
Despite finally wanting to be a Wildcat, Kolone said that something else played into his decision.
"I heard that they might be getting the coach from Oklahoma so I wanted to jump on it(his scholarship offer)."
Kolone carries a 2.87 core GPA and will re-take his SAT. He would like to major in Communications.

I was assuming the same thing (redshirted), so it looks like he has 4 years of eligibility remaining.
MSLA: Thanks for looking up all of that great info and posting it for those of us who are too cheap to buy subscriptions.

Today's Gt. Falls Tribune has a lengthy list of transfers already in school; coaching staff is doing a pretty good job of keeping these kids out of the media and getting them adjusted to Bozo. Should be back to business as usual with the defense and the last three games of the year will look like just a slight slip in the upward direction of the program.

From the Mansch article: "...Kolone, listed on Arizona's roster at 6-4 and 280 pounds, is a San Diego native who redshirted as a fresman last year at Arizona. He has four years of eligibility remaining. "He's a big, athletic guy who is going to be able to help solidify the middle of the defense and still make plays coming off blocks," said MSU defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski. He'll be a bigtime factor for us. We really have high expectations for him. Kalone was a team captain his senior season at Rancho Bernando High in San Diego, where he played defensive end. Kalone is among several transfers who have enrolled at MSU. Defensive end Jason Macciola of De Anza (Calif.) JC and tight end Zach Teisher of Southwestern (Calif) CC are both in Bozeman and have started classes. Receiver Tramaine Murray, a transfer from Washington State, also is enrolled at MSU and will participate in spring drills. "Tramaine is fast and explosive," said Jeremy Thielbahr, MSU tight ends coach and a forme assistant at WSU who is familiar with Murray. "My opinion is he'll be a great player for us." Bobcat head coach Mike Kramer and offensive coordinator Don Bailey have been in the Seattle area this week recruiting in anticipation of Nationa Signing Dany on Feb. 2. According to web site www.showingblitz.com, wich is devoted to NCAA 1-AA football, the Cats have received verbal commitments from several others, incliding Hawaii transfer halfback Mike Bass. The web site indicated that offensive lineman Neil Boyce, a 6-3, 288 pounder from Tacoma Baptist High, has also committed to MSU. Among the Montana high school players who have given verbal commitments are linebacker Chase Gazzerro and offensive tackle Jeff Hanse on CMR and receiver Derek Green of Billings Senior." Most of these kids have been discussed in here already. Almost as excited as my other half gets when she starts reading about her Bulldogs in Athens this time of year!

I went into K State's web site and couldn't find anything--even when he signed. Strange. I know we beat KSU out for Eddie a couple of years ago, and they could have used him this year. If this kid is one their staff let slip under their radar, again, we'll be in pretty good shape--if he decides to go to Bozo.

He's not here. I'm not sure if that means that he decided not to come, maybe we passed on him, or he might be coming this summer. All I know that as of right now Hammond Thomas is not a Bobcat.CARDIAC_CATS wrote:Anyone know anything about the WR from Kansas State? It says he has visited MSU already. I think we had a lot of kids in town this weekend... which is GREAT!!! Nice weather, Cats basketball swept their games, and Bozeman was just a fun place to be this weekend!rollo_tumasi wrote:I know three Billings West kids were visting this weekend(Klaboe, Schreibeis, Fisher). Eric Fisher of West High signed a partial schollie with us two days ago to be a punter/placekicker. This kid is a stud athlete with a huge leg. Also UM has jumped into the Kevin Klaboe sweepstakes late in the game, but as we all know they can offer him a partial and probably still get him.
I swear, it's like I'm playin' cards with my brother's kids or somethin'. You nerve-wrackin' sons-a-bitches.'
