Not a player but just saw Sean Chambers is leaving for Iowa State Cyclones as a Quality Control Coach for the offense.

I think it’s important to recognize we wouldn’t get some of these studs to Bozeman in the first place without the portal. Nearly every big school prioritizes the portal and so many talented high schools kids get over looked and end up at Montana State. It sucks when we lose them but we are fortunate to get them for a couple of years and if we get lucky some stick around.

Bummed about Johnson, and Williams too, but they were great additions this year. I do wonder if part of their reasoning might be location? Texas to Montana is quite different. Happy they came, bummed they're leaving, but i trust the coaches to either coach up their replacements, or find others.

I agree that moving to MT from Texas can be a difficult transition of some of these guys….. but if he goes to Utah that kinda ruins that argument. Hahaha

Re: Bobcat Portal News
The first day, there were around 1,000 players who entered the portal, and only about 260 teams in all D1. It seems realistic that only a small portion of those are improving their lot while most are making lateral or downward transfers. As others have noted, yes we will lose some great players but overall I think MSU is positioned nicely to get more of our fair share of those who aren't getting a P4 bag. If you're a player and you're not getting the deal you want in the first few days, you're gonna end up taking the deal you can get.Monymony wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 3:33 pmI think it’s important to recognize we wouldn’t get some of these studs to Bozeman in the first place without the portal. UM is the university equivalent of Axe Body Spray and essential oils.

So far no surprises. I think we all knew we would loose Williams and possibly 1-2 more db’s.

Williams should have kept things on the down low like Johnson did. But yes, we knew. Did Williams see the field last night? Can't recall. Johnson did I know.

Just lurking and watching portal news, but this is the second time today that I’ve seen a cat fan/student misspell “lose” as “loose”. Is this some sort of inside joke or does MSU not have an English department?

Re: Bobcat Portal News
Question on the portal dates - technically it closes on January 16th, but per the NCAA, there is an extra 5-day window running from January 20-24 for teams playing in the national championship game. Is this only for FBS teams, or would it count FCS as well (both MSU and ISU)???

Re: Bobcat Portal News
I don't believe there's any extension for FCS since those players can still choose to enter by the normal closing date of the 16th.Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 4:56 pmQuestion on the portal dates - technically it closes on January 16th, but per the NCAA, there is an extra 5-day window running from January 20-24 for teams playing in the national championship game. Some of us actually have jobs and post occasionally from a phone which may result in not noticing a spelling error. Completely understand how that could be difficult for a Griz homer to comprehend..the having a job part.

Re: Bobcat Portal News
Clearly late to the party, so how many have entered the portal so far? Just the 2 corners?
