Let's examine:

The Cats lost by 13 to the #3(GPI - best 1AA poll) Cal Poly Mustangs & Division 1 CSU. The Cat wins (except Adams High School) were by slim/close margins where 1 or 2 plays could mean an L instead of a W.

The Griz were ANNIHILATED by Sam Houston, #7 GPI. The Griz wins (except Weber High School) were by slim/close margins where 1 or 2 plays could mean an L instead of a W.

The point? I'd say if the Cats & Griz played each other tomorrow, you'd be hard pressed to HONESTLY say which team was a SIGNIFICANT favorite. Play in Missoula - give the nod to the Griz; play in Bozeman - I'd pick the Cats.

BUT, the next 2 weeks will really tell us what we need to know about the 2 teams. If the Griz are really #4, they should destroy PSU and handle NAU fairly easily at home (especially considering Sauers couldn't beat the Griz Golf team). The Cats MUST win the next 2 if they are really as good as their W-L record indicates; NAU is the tough one, having not won there since Lincoln freed the slaves, and Sad Sac State SHOULD be a gimme.

Time will tell...

GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!
Just because the Griz are ranked higher, does not mean they should 'annihlate' a very good Portland State team. The Big Sky is very balanced this year, and each remaining conference game will be a dogfight for us.

Margin of victory doesn't say everything -- In 2000 when the Griz went to the national title game, almost all of their conference games were pretty close, with the exception of Idaho State, NAU, and Montana State (no smack intended.)

In 2001 we had to come from behind to beat the Big Sky cellar dwellar, ISU and we went on to win the national title a few weeks later.

The rest of the Big Sky gets up for Montana, no doubt about it. The level of play is always stepped up because everyone in the conference savors a win over the Griz -- they don't happen often -- again not boasting -- but it's the truth.

Don't forget though on notable wins -- we have won close but we did beat nationally ranked Maine, and a close win over EWU who is the most dominating team in the conference right now.

Like I said though, every game from here on out will be tough. If I can speak for my fellow Griz fans, we are not at all assuming wins over any of our remaining conference opponents.....We are doing well but the toughest stretch is yet to come.

Good luck against NAU....and EWU especially. I think the Cats could pull those ones off.

GO GRIZ!!

Nice research BelgradeBobcat.
The truth about 15k is that no one knows what is going to happen when schools don't meet it. I would say that roughly 1/4 of I-A programs aren't meeting 15k, once "home games" like Idaho playing WSU in Martin Stadium are taken away. I do think 15k will be used to kick a few programs down (SJSU, Sun Belt schools, et al.), but I see conferences using it as a good excuse to boot programs more than the NCAA. Still, there is a possiblity we will see the entire Sun Belt and MAC sent down to I-AA.
