In response to BACs question: my wife and kids live and work in the Flathead, so I took a job in northeastern Montana and make a weekly commute back and forth. I hear it from people she works with with in the Flathead and unfortunately, from the people I work with here. For whatever reason, they are all DuhhUUMMM graduates. I, on the other hand, grew up in the Gallatin so it doesn't take much to amuse me; all I want to do is watch football, hunt, fish, drink beer and smoke cigars when I'm not working or doing three out of five of the aforementioned lifelong activities. Perhaps I could enhance the gameday experience by showing all things I know about the region. Perhaps some actual screening for gemstones from some of that dirt around Lewistown, over by Helena...get the geology department involved...I like to think MSU is still the centerpiece of Bozo...

I'd just like to be close to even par with the U in terms of booze in the stands. My buddy has gone to all 3 playoff games and said while they don't sell it, it's everywhere and the cops look the other way.

In all fairness to our campus security, I guess those of us from a long time ago probably did a lot to ruin our chances of ever getting beer back in the stands.

Yep - and I was right there with ya. Guess we can't really complain - however they sure seem to look the other way when Wash\Griz turns into a drunken puddle...

Well, my favorite high school coach used to preach that we should not compare ourselves to those we know we are superior to but should always aspire to meet and beat the very best. We do not seem to be of that mindset anymore and we are therefore stuck in an zone whereby we think a high school football crowd is a worthy accomplishment--as those 202 miles west seem to think. By and large, we're a pretty grounded and logical group and should be competing with those of like goals and aspirations--like OSU next year or CSU last year... Heck, remember the bunch in Bozo that ran OUR rodeo out of town because they didn't want to attract that element to "their" California town...just because there was some tobacco company advertising...give me another beer!

Solution ---> FLASK .... BUY COKE CUP/COKE in concession. Mix the two together. MMMMM MMM GOOD. You can sip all you want then and the security can walk by all they want.

My 2 all-time favorite tricks regarding getting adult beverages into a sporting event:

1) My former boss in Bozo had 2 flasks disguised as binoculars; they worked great until a security guard at the Citadel following the 84 Championship game walked up and said "Sir, your binoculars are leaking!"

2) I used to have one of those big, green Coleman camping water jugs. We'd fill a balloon with Peppermint Schnapps, place it in the bottom of the jug, and fill the rest with hot chocolate. When security popped the top and sniffed, all they smelled was the cocoa. Get inside, fish out the balloon, and VOILA! Instant Alpines ready to consume...

I don't want to sneak anything, anywhere. Let's do it above board and correct like Bobcats. Make it legal.

:) I like both of those. Another way is to put booze in a saline solution bottle and have a girl bring it in her purse into the stadium. Hopefully they don't catch it and make you take your contacts out and clean them with it thouhg ;)

Post by northerncat » Thu Dec 16, 2004 9:25 am

OK, I am an out-of-towner, but who is Angela, what does/did she do, and why should we fire her?

Okay, here I go; time to call the ticket office since I see season tickets are on sale to see if we can get a combination Cat-Pack whereby the volleyball and football tickets with perhaps the Volleyball team doing a little exhibition with some of the Cats/small kids during pregame/halftime. As I posted in the Smack Link; my young man enjoyed watching the volleyball as much as my daughter.

I am curious as to the outcome of this thread. Did it get filtered and sent to Peter Fields or is it in limbo?

I was actually planning to put out a "last call" warning on it, then start the summarization process. If anybody wants to add anything else to the thread, please do so by Friday.

Thanks for prodding me on this, Robcat. That never hurts.

My pleasure, anything I can do just let me know. The best thing that can be done, however it is beyond our control, is more wins next year. I am very impressed with the suggestions on this thread and am anxious to see some of them come to fruition. This may take money or pressure on Peter Fields. Lets be prepared to do both. GO CATS!

Howdy RobCat. Technically it's not exactly beyond our control. Any little thing we can do to boost the excitement level, including just BSing around on this website, can only help the team win. Our crowds were absolutely awesome during 5 of the games I went to last year, and I truly believe it does have an effect on performance. Our crowd needs to be a little smarter about cheering loud when we're on D and quieting down during the count when we're on O, but we're getting better. It pains me to always compare us to our ugly little sisters down the street, but they have the crowd noise thing down pat. From the boost it gives the team, to the penalties it causes for opposing teams, the Griz playing at home are AT LEAST 14 point up right off the bat. My buddy who's a Griz fan says it's probably more like 21 - 24 points. HUGE advantage... see games at home vs. away for the Griz...

I agree on the crowd noise, it is getting better at Bobcat Stadium. However, our stadium is not a bowl like the Griz stadium and we lose 50% of our cheering out the end zones. Scream our guts out and it will never reach the decibel level of the Friz. I attended every game last year and the students did a great job of cheering. We just need to get the old farts on my side, the alum side, to pick up the pace and not be so darn conservative. Better hold on to your hat because it will be even louder next year. Providing we get the W's.

Still need to work on the total game day experience and there have been some great suggestions on this thread. The Bobcats are on the prowl and it will only get better, I believe the W's will be there next year, despite the difficult schedule. At least we are not playing a wussy schedule like our ugly stepsister is doing. GO CATS!

Caticac *sp??* i have seen numerous times where a beverage or two would be snuck into cat games...pretty darn easy to do. Seems to me that if that is the goal - to prevent anyone from sneaking in a alcoholic beverage or 2, wouldnt stadium security do a better job??
