Re: Vigen inks new four year contract
This is great to see!!!
From my research and calling people vigen is a true stand up guy. He really loves bozeman for himself and for his family. He isn't dumb enough to say he'll never leave but I don't really think that's really on his mind. Remember he was groomed in the way of ndsu. Those coaches stick around forever because it's more than just money and accolades for them. Yes I think he will eventually leave, I mean bad news Bill eventually left NE, but I think the only way he leaves is it has to be the RIGHT job. He has all the backing he needs in bozeman. He has a nice contract that I'm pretty sure in addition to he's not paying a house note, car note and has extra money coming in that probably equates to over 1mil yearly. Just from what has been told to me he isn't wired like many of these college coaches and he values where he is for what it is and what it does for his family.
When he does find that right job I wish him all the best because I think he's a really great coach but for now I don't think he sees another job out there that's better than where he is. I think he thinks a little like me, stay here and rule the roost, job security, lovely town, etc. Why go to a tough situation when you have all you need here. His biggest problem is going to be keeping assistant coaches that get hired away for head coaching jobs. He's going to have to invest in grooming his staff to step up when one leaves, a la daly. Congrats msu on doing right by your coach many schools don't do this.

I’ve heard rumors from two sources about that project. But until MSU announces it they are just rumors to me. Fingers crossed BNAFCAT wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 12:12 pmIf I had $8mil to spare, it would go to the new East Grandstand fund.

But does it include the Gratey and a Sham-wow?
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

No, he signed a new 4-year contract in the summer of 2023 so he's just finishing up year 2 of that one. I believe the 2023 contract was also renegotiated prior to the original expiration date.

You sound like a Gallatin Valley real estate agent. Manhattan Kansas is already occupied by someone who was UNDER Vigen at NDSU. And I'm pretty sure he has a nice house that looks upon the Kansas prairies and he gets free dinners in Manhattan. When 99% of your time is committed to building a football program, it really doesn't matter what town you're hunkered down in. Just the facts.MTnative wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 9:27 pmEver been to Manhattan, Kansas? It sucks. Money is one thing, but a community that has a defined core is something I’ve grown to value as I’ve gotten older. Lots of college towns don’t have that.GavinDonos wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 1:43 pmAnyone who thinks Vigen is here to stay is waaaay over their skis. This is how the game works. I would love it if Vig is here forever but am grateful that he signed a deal that will allow us some buyout $$$ after he gets hired by a P5 startup/contender when the time comes.
The ideal that the "magical Gallatin Valley" or kids are going to keep him here are folly. There is a thing called the transfer portal. Ask Deion and his sons how it works. And Bozeman really isn't all that as far as quality of life goes compared to other college towns. It's not like Coach V. goes snowboarding / trout fishing that often.
That being said, let's ride this friggin lightning bolt to the end!
Bozeman has ALOT of upside compared to other larger college towns. And I don’t think the Deion example is totally fair. That’s a whole different ball of wax fueled by celebrities and NFL level connections.
Vigen is here for the moment, and I think he likes it for more than just the job.

What’s wrong with Manhatten Kansas? I’ve been there a lot. Pheasant hunt in Kansas the last 15 years. I don’t attend a game every year but have made a few…particularly when Kansas and Kansas State play. Good fan base. Good rivalry. When I’ve gone good game day attendance. Love the Wabash Cannonball tunes and fan engagement. Land grant school with solid ag program and strong engineering school like MSU. No it doesn’t have the mountain scenery but if you are from ag background in Montana it’s like home. Good people just like rural Montana….an example….one year one of our hunting group had a rollover vehicle accident (only minor injury)….every car stopped….I mean EVERY car stopped over the course of 3 hours we were on site….all offering us help or offering us their home or offering to bring food….salt of the earth folks. Good deer, turkey, pheasant and quail hunting. Good fishing in places.GavinDonos wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 2:03 pmYou sound like a Gallatin Valley real estate agent. K State is fine. It was a mid tier P5 team.
Thats a lit different than a PAC 2 or MWC position unless it’s Boise State.

I’m a native, so I’m about as far from a real estate agent adult can get.GavinDonos wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 2:03 pmYou sound like a Gallatin Valley real estate agent. When you’re hunkered down, you’re bracing from what’s around you. And you don’t want to look up to see it.
