Had similar good times there during that era. Never really heard the history of what happened to the old ice arena at 4 corners. Was a pretty cool venue for its day.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 10:33 pmI attended countless icedogs games at the VIG, I have fond memories of those times. This is a cow shed with a rink in the middle. They even call it a barn. We need some hockey sugar daddys to finish this place.

Yup, those Ice dog days were pretty fun, great venue for sure. I think the owners had to pull the plug on it as it just couldn't turn the corner to profitability. Its 2nd life for Cardinal Distribution is doing very well, and it came with already built in refrigeration, win win.RKMCMT wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 2:26 pmHad similar good times there during that era. Some guy would swing down from the rafters in cowboy boots and slide the entire length of the ice. Then straight out the Zamboni exit. That was epic every single time.Bobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 2:54 pmYup, those Ice dog days were pretty fun, great venue for sure. That was Cliff! He was crazy. I remember always sitting in the "Dog Pound", sneaking in 12 beers in my girlfriend's purse, and watching a guy named McNabb consistently kick the ass of the toughest guy on the other team. I remember those games more than MSU football games from my college years. Just a ****** load of fun.ClowderUp wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 4:12 pmSome guy would swing down from the rafters in cowboy boots and slide the entire length of the ice. Re: Bobcat Hockey & Cat griz
My memory is failing me... What was the name of the announcer? He was awesome. Always painted his face and had long hair. To this day, there are still songs that when they come on the radio, remind me of those games. They always played Thin Lizzy - The Boys are Back in Town the first game after a long road trip. And there was a specific song they always played after a win. Struggling to remember it now. I didn't have a debit card back then, and I remember my checkbook carbon copies were mostly written to the order of T&C, VIG, and MSU...Clinton T wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:51 pmThat was Cliff! Kind of like how after a an MSU MBB win they used to play Kool and the Gang - Celebration. This was late 90's early 2000's, mind you... Every time I hear that song, I can smell The Brick; hot dogs, popcorn and that unique smell that can't be replicated.
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

A lot of us on here are probably around the same age if we attended the Ice Dogs games while in college! I remember going to the very first home game my freshman year with a friend of mine having no clue what to expect, and was hooked immediately. My brother and I bought season tickets for two years until he graduated and left Bozeman, second row right behind the goal at the far end of the arena from the main entrance. If there was an MSU basketball game and an Ice Dogs game on the same night we were at the Valley Ice Garden every time, no question. Such a great facility, too bad they weren't able to keep it going but it was a hell of a lot of fun while it lasted.Clinton T wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:51 pmThat was Cliff! He was crazy. Yep whenever we went, we always sat in that same section, to the press box side of the rink. I still have a puck that I caught. Saved my cousin from probably losing some Chiclets! Icedogs logo on one side and DiGiorno's pizza ad on the obverse...MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 9:17 pmA lot of us on here are probably around the same age if we attended the Ice Dogs games while in college! What a quality production! Like the use of the drones and the narration is great. That Yellowstone Club outdoor rink is awesome.

Re: Bobcat Hockey & Cat griz
If someone hooked them up with an invite to Yc then maybe there can be a donation for a better facility than what we have now. We went from VIG to whatever it is at the fairgrounds. Maybe there's plenty of seating for whe shows up but last time I was there it only looked like it would seat about 100 people?
For the history of the ice gardens: it was built by Martel Construction but the people they were building it for, couldn't pay to finish it so Martel eventually took over ownership. I used to love those games. Eventually the whole leage went to a lower level of play and the Dogs had to travel further away. It didn't make financial sense to have to travel so far for all away games so they too went to a lower level. At that point I don't think the bigger arena was needed so it sold to Cardianal, the local Bud and Miller distributor. Plus it's not like Martel was ever super interested in owning the Gardens.
Geno was the name of the announcer. I think he still does announcing for the current iteration of the Dogs. He was the long time overnight cashier at a local gas station. Not sure where he is now.
Here's your song he always used to play.
