I think it's been stated before that Vigen won't let them come back. He did let Elliott stick around with the team through the NC even though he portalled back in December, so maybe he's getting soft, LOL. But I don't think so.

I don't believe he would, and I don't think allowing players to "test" the portal and return would be beneficial for the program. Once a decision is made that the team may not be the best fit, it's important everyone (player and team alike) stick with that choice and move forward.

Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
Gonna have to disagree on the value Powdrell has given. He came in as a true freshman and saved our butts a couple times when starters went down. He's been pretty dang durable. He was by far our best tackling corner and I felt like played just as well if not better than Woodard(who I love) this year.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:32 amAnd at least in the case of guys like Humphrey and Moore they're leaving early but they gave the Cats some serious return on the investment and development that was given to them. I don't like that they're moving on at all, but it was definitely a boon to MSU that they were here at all.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:19 amHe's listed at a VERY generous 5'10". If he was 6'1" he would have started FBS. The Cats developed him into a good corner especially when it came to tackling but he's not going to to be 6 feet tall. MSU or G5 is probably the ceiling and it would have been better for him to stay put.
Powdrell was just becoming a value add on the field and now he's gone. For me, that makes him the bitterest loss. If you're going to take the investment in you as a player and then bail for a payday, at least stick around long enough to give something back to the team that developed you before you go.
With that being said, I totally agree that if he didn't have a P4 chance locked up that leaving for a G5(unless it's like Boise or something) is a headscratcher.

It's easy to say good riddance and get lost, but Robert Ford on last year's basketball team is a good example of why it can potentially be better to have more of an open mind when it comes to the portal. Ford entered the portal when Sprinkle left but decided to stay to play for Logie and ended up having one of the best seasons I've ever seen for a Bobcat basketball player. Obviously a different situation with the football team right now since there isn't going to be a coaching change, so maybe Vigen will continue to handle it his own way and treat portal declarations as final.

I think he let guys stay that were going to drop down and/or weren't contributing anyway. If Powdrell would have entered or said he was going to enter he would have been sitting at home last Monday.

Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
That is a valid point about Ford, but there was a coaching change and I think that's a little different. He was incredibly valuable though, you're not wrong. That being said, if the players on offense left because Walker and Johnson left, and new coaches come in and they reach out to come back, maybe? But since Vigen stayed I think it's a moot point.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:16 pmIt's easy to say good riddance and get lost, but Robert Ford on last year's basketball team is a good example of why it can potentially be better to have more of an open mind when it comes to the portal. Ford was essentially re-recruited by MSU because of the program change. I feel like any new coach would bring back players from the previous year even if they entered the portal before or after he was hired.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:16 pmIt's easy to say good riddance and get lost, but Robert Ford on last year's basketball team is a good example of why it can potentially be better to have more of an open mind when it comes to the portal. I doubt the football players are entering the portal on a whim. They know before they entered that they have offers waiting for them. Once they've made the decision to leave, that's the decision they have to stick with. It would set a bad precedent to let guys test the waters and then just come back if things didn't work out as planned. Can't have halfway committed guys.

I think you're right. Although, do we know for sure when players entered the portal versus announcing they had? Guessing for most it was kept a secret until it wasn't.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:29 pmI think he let guys stay that were going to drop down and/or weren't contributing anyway. Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
Hard to say when guys enter but I wouldn't be surprised if the guys that weren't playing had conversations even before the playoffs letting their position coach and probably Vigen that they are planning to move on after the year. The starters that left definitely waited until after the game to formally enter, whether some or all of the team knew they were going to or not.nanacat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:35 pmI think you're right. Johnny just played some special teams this year, but rumors are that he might try some wildcat in certain circumstances. Good luck Johnny!

I mean... Vim has no control over when players commit. I'm pretty sure he was saying we are going to start getting good news, not bad. And if its a QB recruit I could understand that you might want to see who the OC is before committing.
I do wonder though, its probably too late to get them enrolled in classes for the spring semester.

I know he has no control over timing. Was just hoping there was info in the secret places where those of you who find it and share it with the rest of us. And no news is certainly better than bad news.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 3:47 pmI mean... Vim has no control over when players commit. Saw Vigen followed a Gordie Haug as a coach. Was tight ends coach at North Dakota so my guess would be that is one of the coaches.
