BB: What happens on the court?
OK, I'm separating this from the other thread since that has nothing to do with basketball...but what does Durham do now that the starting point guard is presumably done at MSU?
Does he play Miller at the point and start Jefferson at SG? Presumably Durham's minutes are going to increase substantially, fortunately he's looked better than I expected him to be in what I've seen so far. Durr should also play more, again I've been impressed with his improvement from last year to this year.

Life goes on-including life for the MSU men's basketball team.
Casey Durham-starting point guard? I wouldn't bet against it.
The other freshman kid-Ryan Holmes-will probably get more minutes. Was he a point guard in high school?
It will probably be somewhat of a position by committee, but I figure Casey probably knows more about what the coach wants than anyone else.

My guess, and it is nothing more than that, is Ryan Holmes will see a considerable more amount of time on the court than expected. I think Casey and Brandon will probably take the brunt of the load initially but as the season goes on I would guess more and more will be given to Ryan if he responds accordingly.

Which bodes a question:
How much "investigating" do we perform when recruiting a kid? Was there anything in his past that might signal us that he's not a "model citizen"? How deeply should a coach delve into a kids' past in order to try and weed out kids that have questionable ethics?
Don't take this as an attack on Mick; I'm just curious if this was a BIG SHOCK to people close to Brown. I don't know ANYTHING about the young man; was he clean-cut on the floor or a thug or somewhere in between...?

There is a nice artical in todays Bozo Comical about this subject. When i say nice I do not mean it gives you the warm fuzzy feeling reading it, but it give a nice honest look at where the basketball team goes from here, and the impact of Franks transgretion. The strenght of this team is/was the point guard position. Durham, Jefferson, Holmes, and Miller all can play the point. Look for Jefferson to man the Point to start. Durham has a leg up over Holmes right now because he knows the system so well, but Holmes is the Point guard of the future, so could push for time as the season goes on much like Brown did his freshman year.
We will be alright.

I chatted with a few people yesterday, and I don't think it really shocked anyone.Everything I have heard, and from my own admittedly limited observations, Frank was a model citizen prior to this. I never heard of any problems from high school either. Someone else may have more info, but I am guessing this shocked Mick and he could not have seen it coming.

hmmm
seems to me nothing "happened" to Frank. This wasn't an accident...
I know this article is about what happens to the team - and I appreciate that this will have a great impact on the team - emotionally, mentally, etc. - and it is a tragedy for the players who ARE model citizens.
But to say that something terrible happened to Frank is just not right. He made bad, bad choices, but they were choices not just some kind of bad luck. Give me a break.

Give me a break wbtfg! Was Frank a model citizen, maybe not, but to think he was capable of this was probably the farthest from peoples minds.wbtfg wrote:I chatted with a few people yesterday, and I don't think it really shocked anyone.Everything I have heard, and from my own admittedly limited observations, Frank was a model citizen prior to this.
