I wasn't sure which board to put this on. This project is very important to making MSU more attractive to students, including athletes:

This upgrade is long overdue; it doesn't seem that long ago that Lance Deal was checking IDs on the way into the swimming pool. Kind of a perfect example of somebody coming to Bozo for one reason (play football) and making a decision to go another direction with his life. MSU and the surrounding area offers so much more than a kid can actually take in and take full advantage of in just four years; I've spent over five years of my life inside Yellowstone Park, as an example, and haven't seen it all. Bozeman and MSU really is an international destination. We are worldclass and should have worldclass facilities.

...and I resent that our conference leadership forces our kids to continue in a conference with second, third and fourth tier schools from surrounding states...it drags down our national and international exposure when we aren't the window to the school, and an upgrade in facilities will enhance that help to offset that public perception...

You have to give the students credit for voting to pay for the improvements, as they have consistently done for decades. I'm amazed at how important climbing is in Bozeman. There must be 20 climbing walls of all shapes and sizes available in town and more all of the time.
The student union and gym facilities are where students live everyday, along with the library, and are extremely imortant to the school's image.

Couldn't agree more, Velochat. I also think the athletic program is an important aspect and an upgrade in our football stadium is extremely important also; since I'm in public education, I'll be our new sugar daddy. I've got my checkbook out and after my Christmas shopping is done, I'll send the balance to Mr. Fields in an attempt paydown the the stadium debt (should easily come to over 50 bucks). What I'm saying is: don't forget to send the school a little extra this time of year. If I had a decent accountant, I wouldn't keep getting hit with that stinking AMT every year!

Yeah, I used to climb the walls continually until I went downtown and got some relief. Or, I'd go run, head for the powerhouse on the Madison and climb up to where all the elk and deer are by Cowboy Heaven...Anyway, glad to see the kids starting to realize what an impact facilities have on their overall school experience. Now if we could get them to look at what a good bargain they have in activity fees...As an example, when I was putting my other half through Grad School at UGA, I paid $185 PER QUARTER in student activity fees...but then that other school down the interstate would go to the DUHHUUMMMM controlled Board of Regents...
