Yep, 20 sacks in a season at any level is an eye opener. This kid might be pretty darn good. We need 1-2 more guys like Rogers to come in .. 275+ and nasty mean. I still think moving either Saucedo or Birkland back to DL could help as well.Cat Pride wrote:Sounds like a good start, but we still have a ways to go.

I am excited about what they are doing with the safeties next year. Fuller is moving to FS and Force is moving to SS. Grenfel will also play FS mainly, and Corkey Lindsey is somehow back for another year to back up Ryan Force?
Fuller and Force I am really excited about. Both are great hitters and two of the defenses more reliable tacklers. Also, both add some serious speed to the safety position. Force may have been a tad slow for FS/CB he was playing last year but at SS he will be a FORCE. Fuller at FS will be a quick, hard hitting FS who now realizes how to defend the pass as well after last season.

I think the reason they ran against us was more that the safeties were out of position due to the fact that they were helping the corners. I heard from someone that the Wide receiver from Kansas State that we were looking at might bring along a corner...just rumor!Cat Grad wrote:I hope you're right, but I still have my reservations. Anytime somebody like Mole or Hilliard can run over and through our secondary, it bothers me. But they may discover what the weight room is during the offseason...

From what I've heard Hammond Thomas (Kansas State) has indicated that he will be at MSU. If that is true he might work out real well. I only say this because he was rated in the top 100 in the nation by some of the recruiting services and has two years of elig. remaining. However, he only caught one pass in two years at KSU. But.....KSU doesn't throw the ball a lot. Do they?
I'm also under the impression that the running back Bass out of Hawaii has indicated that he will be at MSU, also. I think he, like the WSU receiver drop down, only has one year of eligibility remaining and I'm curious about the thinking behind getting guys for one year - chemistry-wise. My guess is that with the senior laden offense (7) in 2005 they are throwing all their eggs in one basket and shooting for the moon in anticipation of a re-building season (on offense) in 2006.

I'm hesitant to get too excited about someone who hasn't done anything yet to prove he can play at the D-I level. I like the size and physical tools these guys bring to the table, but that does not necessarily mean they can play good football. We just gotta hope these are good guys who play like animals and can help off the field as well - they are out there, you just have to find the right guys. Still looking for some SIZE on the D-line, though! Man, I am still pissed over losing Kofe.
For anyone really excited about these WRs, just think back a couple of months and remember Ronnie Rodamer. I like the look of things on the surface, but I will withhold becoming too excited until we can actually see them play.

Exactly what I was thinking Bozone. I still remember how high the egrizzer's were on him and there was no one that would really listen to the idea that just because they are a I-A transfer doesn't make them a I-AA world beater. While I am excited to hear of more guys that look talented possibly coming into the program, I will reserve judgement until seeing them on the field.BozoneCat wrote:For anyone really excited about these WRs, just think back a couple of months and remember Ronnie Rodamer. I've always felt football, especially on the 1AA level, is about finding the right players, not necessarily the best players. So what if a kid can run a 4.2, or make big plays, if he doesn't fit in the system, or have a good work ethic, he won't go to far at any level.
I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right players.

At the expense of going too deep into Rodamer talk, let's just keep in mind that he quit the Griz team so he could start training for the NFL. He had all the talent in the world, but for whatever reason no college coach had the wisdom to agree.kmax wrote:Exactly what I was thinking Bozone. Yeah, good prospects .. but they are going to have to prove it in practice and in games. I like our WR corp even even as it is right now with Gatewood/Guinn/Roosevelt/Lulay/Sherman (if he stays) .... need one more stud like gatewood .....BozoneCat wrote:I'm hesitant to get too excited about someone who hasn't done anything yet to prove he can play at the D-I level. The 6 straight home games probably had something to do with that as wellBozoneCat wrote:Weird, huh?Bay Area Cat wrote:At the expense of going too deep into Rodamer talk, let's just keep in mind that he quit the Griz team so he could start training for the NFL. Generally I feel confident that a few of the guys Kramer brings in will be factors next year and that this team -- overall -- is ahead of any team at this point than any during Kramer's time. I don't see any true freshmen starting next year.
Dorowski, Rogers, Grenfell, Lindsay, Domineck, Guinn and Matakis (Eddie Smith although he didn't play, but is good) last year, then Gatewood, Figueroa and Sullivan the year before, and Joey Thomas, Junior Adams to name a couple in previous years.
There have been some duds, but quite a few contributors. It seems as the core improves, the skills of the incoming guys goes up. As Bozone says, we'll just have to see.
I also think quite of few of the redshirt frosh/sophs will factor in to things. Saucedo is listed as a def. lineman on the roster and is apt to stay there even though he spent some time with the offense. It sounds like Papich will be rotating through the defensive line, too. I think O'Tool did a good job last year. Kramer may not be ecstatic, but he may be a little spoiled from the guys he's had the past 3-4 years. Right now they can't afford an injury on the D front.
No matter if King or Curley starts along side Marudas and Mollohan at LB there will be a lot of depth there with Mauia and Ashley coming on. They are all solid players. The DBs are also very solid coming back with Smith and Hunter. They have eight good DBs and their nickle and dime packages will be vastly improved.
A fast start, avoiding the injury bug (Dorowski, corners) and winning at Cal Poly, as has been mentioned by many others, is a must next year.
