I got the Cat/Griz book in my stocking this weekend and so far have not been able to put it down.
Did you know the longest field goal made in a Cat/Griz game was by stenerud(sp?) 59 yards.

I was there in like 1966!

Agreed...GREAT book. Of course, the last 25 years were most interesting to me, especially 2 stories. First, the story of how um's program turned around when Don Read came to Missoula.
The best story in the book, though, is 2002 - in my HUMBLE opinion. As great as the 16 game winning streak was, it was topped, by orders of magnitude, by the story of the game that ended that streak.
in my HUMBLE opinion, of course.

I am a Bobcat fan living in Texas. Where is this book sold at? Is it offered online? Thanks.

Txcat, I got 2 of the books for Christmas, they are both signed by the author. I was going to return one, but if you like, you could PM me with your address and for a 30 dollar bill I would send it to ya. Thats the actual cost $30.00.

I am not sure if it can be ordered on line, but Hastings in Billings carries it for $30.00.

For those outside of Montana looking to get this, it doesn't appear that there is a place to order it online as of yet. However, going to
http://www.buttebooks.com/dividewar/index.html gives a phone number and email address which apparently you can place an order through. Price from the main page of that site is listed at $29.95 + $5.95 s/h.

Well, THE STREAK, as the author hysterically phrases it, was going to end sometime and so aside from the fact that it happened in 2002, that game didn't seem particularly memorable, even to this Griz fan who was there. However, the 1997 game when THE STREAK nearly ended was incredible if only for its truly Homeric aspect. Even I could understand after that game how 'Cat fans could truly doubt the existence of a benevolent higher power. Personally, I think the book is a good resource, but it's pretty dreary reading, and could have used a lot of editing.

That was my first cat/griz game ever attended. At that time I would root for the griz anytime they weren't playing the Cats. Since that game, I have rooted against the griz in all sports no matter who they were playing.

wbtfg: I am truly sorry it took such a wrong and terrible occurence as the 1997 game to change you, but at least you came away from the "dark" side and are now on the side of the good guys all the time

I'm not quite sure that I understand you guys. I am a HUGH GRIZ fan, and like you with the cats hate the opposing team, but only that one game a year. I can't tell you how many cat fans came up to me after we lost the NC game and just laughed and said that thry were glad we lost. I for one can honestly say that if Bozo made it all the way I would be cheering for them to win it all. After all most of the boys that play for both teams are local Montana boys. I like to see MT schools no matter what town they come from do well. Couldn't be happier for Carroll and their season. Anyway that's my 2 cents. Hope that you guys have a great season and look forward to hating you in late November.

By the way after my little fit I forgot what the topic of the thread was. I haven't read the whole book yet but those parts that I have read were really good. a great gift for any Montana football fan.

rabid...I myself find I'm "entilted to your opinion". However, my rule of thumb is....I root for every BSC team playing a noncoference opponent unless it somehow hurts the Bobcats. I generally root against your g* when they are playing in conference unless a g* win will help the Bobcats. I will root for any BSC team making their way through the playoffs unless they are playing the Bobcats.
I know I have fellow Bobcats who will not root for the g* under any circumstance, anytime, anywhere, for any reason. I respect that.

What's to respect in that? It's just stupid.

Well, there are people, not necessarily limited to Bobcats who don't like you guys and will root against you no matter what, period! That's their right as fans! In return, should it be your desire, you don't have to like them back. Can you respect that?

Hey, granted that stupidity is protected by the constitution, but that doesn't mean it should be respected. The answer is no.

As is a difference of opinion......however, in this specific case, only an idiot thinks that things should only be one way or no way at all!!
I haven't and will never root for anything that even relates to the griz. I don't find that stupid; I only classify it as a difference of opinion.

As an adult, mature Griz fan...yes, there are some of us... I would say pretty much the same thing about the Bobcats, in a lot of cases, and I think that's what makes the rivalry a good thing.
I put my "Damn, I hope the Bobcat lose" attitude aside when MSU played McNeese...I don't think I've ever wanted the Bobcats to win a game more than I wanted them to win that one.
