First, I'd like to see where MSU is calling itself "The Montana State University." Is that even a fact?

It was just a thing some people on here started doing before football season. No, MSU does not use it.

I was at a Missoula Bobcat gathering where Kramer spoke. The topic of Huack calling MSU just "State" came up and Kramer went off!! The jist of the conversation was that Kramer said at the end of it that he was going to refer to MSU from that point on as THE Montana State University. Thats where I picked it up and I admit will throw it out to see how Griz take. Not so much on the message boards as I will in conversations. Griz fans are soooooooo testy some times.

I personally would love it if the people of influence at MSU did start calling us THEE Montana State University. If it pisses off others like Hauck, then start saying it louder and more often.

Let's suggest some standard nomenclature for this board:
The Montana State University (Fighting) Bobcats.
vs.
hellgate school of manual arts friz, or th'um friz, or frizville.
Here we are talking about "them" again.

I didn't intend to demean The Missoula Hellgate Knights, but that little college slumming up the neighborhood.

I don't really know why any Griz fans would be upset the U of M does the same thing. When i was a student i had a campus job and any time we mentioned the U of M, we had to put THE in front of it or Dennison would have a tizzy. Seriously some people really need to lighten up. I mean you guys are The Montana St. University, since you are the only one, just like we are The U of Montana.

Certain colleges in Havre, Billings, Great Falls, Dillon, Butte and Helena might take exception to that statement.

Wow, that sure is a long list of towns with colleges in them -- none of which are JC's -- for a state of 800-900K. That's it... let's get rid of some of them.

Actually, that includes technical colleges in Missoula, Helena, Great Falls and Billings, all of which have either um or The Montana State University in their names, and not including the universities in Havre, Billings, Butte and Dillon, whose names also include um or MSU. Of course that doesn't include several 4 year private and tribal colleges and several junior colleges. The trend is to provide classes in more towns, not less, as economic development depends on higher education.
For example, MSU-Northern's Great Falls branch is now offering computer courses at a Bozeman tech center; there are many other examples. Fortunately, all of these campuses don't need to offer american football.

That is all fine and dandy that all schools are associated with the university system, but I find it insulting that the school in Bozeman is refered to as MSU-Bozeman. I hate that. MSU-Billings and MSU-Northern, UM-Western, etc. is just fine, but when refering to the Bobcats, it is THEE Montana State University, not MSU-Bozeman.
Pet peave, maybe, but I find the MSU-Bozeman nomenclature stupid! It is my understanding that the Alumni Association is researching this as well as a logo research to establish one solitary logo/name to represent the university and our sister schools.

It is better than Hauck's slap in the face "state" comments.
