Obsevations on Bobcat/Griz (non-Game)
I had to be at the Fieldhouse by 5:30 so I had plenty of time to sit around and observe,
think, and be board. Wait till you see the Stat laden post I am going to post tomorrow.
Any way I watched more than just the game Saturday and have the following thoughts.
1 Something happened that I have not seen ever at a Bobcat Griz game. When Durham
first came on to the court about 45 min. before game time he walked directly up to Griz
assistant Tinkle and Huse and start jawing. He then motions for them to sat down and
they sit on the side lines chairs having a good 10-15 minute talk, and from body language
it was a very lively conversation. By the end Durham had two Griz assistants, their team
manager, and I think another Griz personal all waving arms and laughing. Civility!
Minutes before a Bobcat Griz game! Unheard of! I talked to a Bozemanite / Booster
during half time and his eyes just bugged out of his head. He could not believe it other to
say Durham, has been know among coaches as being "intense" on game day, but that he
appears to be trying to be a kinder , Gentler Durham this year.
2. Did anyone catch what Kysco was wearing. I did not notice but, I have heard a couple
of comments that his suite was Bobcat colors, couple that with his Cat/Griz comment
Friday, and he had a few Griz fans are scratching their heads on Sunday.
3.Who among you caught the, Monte magic cut the stuffed Bobcat in half "magic trick"
during one of the time-outs in the first half. Granted I am bias, but I found it a little
crude. The thing that I am wondering about, why is it if a fan throws a mangled stuffed
animal at the oppositions bench they would get ejected, but if a paid employee of the
university throws it at the back of an assistant coach, it is OK. Am I being too, sensitive!
4. Redshirts Martrell Johnson and Ted Morris were no where to be seen Saturday, Does
anyone know if Johnson and Morris just did not make the trip. With school starting I
was at least expecting them to be in street clothes. At the game.

I do remember what Kysco was wearing Saturday to be honest, and I did not listen to his interview at the half time of the Ladies game. From what GRIZ fans are telling me he called the Saturdays game the ........ BOBCAT / Griz Game.......... Gasp!!. Now while we all know it is correct of him to call it so, many Griz fans would prefer he refered to it as Griz / Cat game.
Ohh the Horror!

You would think when I post these articles every day I would actually read them too, but generally I don't have time to post them and read them.
Anyway, I like Krysko's attitude. That is the kind of coach I like. Gracious in defeat and not search for excuses. I am sure some Griz fans don't like to see a few of his comments, but overall he is a classy guy who they should be proud to call their coach!

I too appreciated Krysko's classy comments after the game. He will be a good hire for the griz, and if/when he gets them playing anything like how he played the game, they will be a very good team.
I'm interested to hear what you thought of the crowd at the game, Mslacat? I had to do a double-take when I saw the attendence - 4500???? PATHETIC! They can make all the excuses they want about the students not being there, but that is just ridiculous and embarrassing.
Lastly.... Monte sucks. I wish the league would put a leash on him, because right now he pretty much does whatever the hell he/they want to.

Like I may have said before I have most likely been Ushering for about 12 years (althought not everygame). The Cat Griz was the game where you had to crack down and make sure people haad the right ticket for the right seat and look at every ticket. Now it is pathetic and sad, they used to get that many folks or more for a regular game. The Cat griz game was ALWAYS a sell out. Now the Griz anouncer, Doug the local Pella windows guy, announces at the 8 minute mark of the FIRST half that all seats are open to grab, why buy reserve seats!

Now that's funny
Did the frizzly announcer really say to the crowd to come and find any available seat? Good lord things have gotten bad in missyoula.
IF the Bobcats can continue on their little streak even though the game in Bozeman is on a Sunday it will be a full house.

The way it works is, at the eight minute Media Time out (when ever the refs call it). The
announcer lets everyone know they are free to move to any seat in the house. There was
an article on it in the paper Missoulain a week or so back, and I had a little piece of paper
explaining it to me, when I arrived.
One other thing, about the Griz attendance last Saturday, the Big Sky Conference did not
do any favors to Montana in it's infinite wisdom by scheduling the game before school
was back in session. UM is still on intercession I believe right now.

Well, yes, the crappy "Intersession" is still going, but that is still no excuse for getting only 4500 people to a Cat-griz game. We don't always sell out the game in Bozeman, but we are almost always around the 7000 mark.
Hell, they could have just made sure all the grizzly athletes taking classes to get eligible came to the game - that would have brought in at least a hundred more people!

There was a rival sporting event in town Sat night (and actually Friday night, too). The local ice rink was hosting an adult hockey tourney, and
there was also beer at that venue, which may have contributed to that venue being jammed with any straggler college students.
Theoretically, a person could do both venues, unless, of course, there is beer at one, and not the other.

You can already take the semester off to drink and lift, and still manage to get your undergrad degree from UM.Helcat72 wrote:I was wondering...could a person graduate from THE University of Montana by just attending Intersessions? If you do the math it's nearly possible! That would make the rest of the semesters free to lift weights and party!

What are you talking about he does whatever he wants? I didn't see him do anything that was against the rules or should be stopped. He cut up a toy bobcat with a chainsaw, if that offends you then you really need to step into the grown up world Bozone.BozoneCat wrote:I.

It is I who said I found it a little distaistful. My 4 year old daughter did not like that AT ALL! My 8 year old son thought it was funny. What I really do not like is the thowing of the stuffed remains at the MSU Bench! Fortunatelly Carson, in turned, tossed in the direction of the MSU fans, to the boos of the crowd. Otherwise we could have had stuffed animal remains being thrown at the the Bench all evening.anacondagriz wrote:What are you talking about he does whatever he wants? It was Bozone who said Monte sucks and he is out of control. Yes the old Monte is now the mascot for the Bulls, so there are now 2 freshman who play the role. Mslacat I don't think that if the animal had ended up in any of the Griz sections the fans would have been throwing at the Cat players all night. You guys should be excited though the Cats are playing really well and led pretty much the whole game.

Yes and no. Yes, we should all have thicker skin, but no in that nothing should be thrown at the opposing teams bench, even when done in jest from a stupid mascot.
I wish that Champ had more creativity and was half as imaginative as Monte, but there are times when UM needs to reel in their mascot. Saturday's episode was one of them.
Chopping up a Bobcat toy was fine, but I think he went over the line in throwing it at the bench. Maybe if he'd have just thrown it into the MSU section or anywhere in the crowd at all, jsut not directed at the team and it would have been tolerable in my mind.

It certainly was not appropriate........especially for a 4-year old. I get sick of all the "crap" that goes on in college, with the exception of Duke. I am not sure a college game is a place to take any pre-school or elementary age students......if we all could just concentrate on the game. We are in a changing world tho!mslacat wrote:It is I who said I found it a little distaistful. My 4 year old daughter did not like that AT ALL! My 8 year old son thought it was funny.
