The Cat Brothers meet in Missoula

Believe it or not I got the idea from this from BAC, in a kind-of screwy way.
The Cat brothers Bob and Msla became huge Bobcat basketball fans, while attending MSU in the early 80’s. Msla after graduating left Bozeman for greener pastures and adventures, Bob remained in Bozeman got married and is raising a family. As best they can, they get together to watch the Cat/Griz game twice a year. Last Saturday they met at the Harry Adams Field house to watch the first meeting between the clubs for this year. As is their custom they arrived an hour or so before game time and discussed Basketball
Msla: We need to dump Durham and get fresh blood in the program.
Bob: You don’t know a good thing when you have it!
Msla: We need some excitement, Durham is old hat.
Bob: You are still looking for stars, Britney Spears, I am happy and loyal to my family.
Msla: What’s wrong with Britney heh heh heh. What’s with this family stuff Durham’s not Family.
Bob: Britney’s pretty and sexy but in a few years you will be looking for the new Britney. Mick is family, granted not as exiting as Britney, but he and his teams make me feel like I am going to watch my family team.
Msla: Oh give me a fricken break, Britney, Family! Durham’s program is flat, we should be challenging for the league title EVERY year!
Bob: If we hired a new coach who may only stay 3-4 years can you guarantee he will get us in the league championship game every year, and that the coach who replaces him will do the same, and the one who replaces him?
Msla: There you go again, that is being ridiculous, but what I can say is that a new coach would bring excitement. Past that, yea, you are rolling the dice, but sometimes you have to shake things up, take a gamble. Strive for excellence.
Bob: Yea, but despite Durham’s 54% win total over the last 15 years, MSU has the 4th best total season wins record for that period of time among the 11 Big Sky pear schools.
Msla: How do you know that!
Bob: Take my word, only Weber at 62% wins, Boise at 56%, and UM at 56% have a better winning percentage than Durham over his 15 years as coach, and if you take out his 5/8 rule problem years his percentage jumps to 57%.
Msla: Oh don’t give me that 5/8 rule schtuff. It was under his watch, he screwed up, the losses were his, besides it is just another reason we should get rid of him.
Bob: I will just say many of the defections were NOT with-in his control…..
Msla: Quit excusing him the buck stops at Durham!
Bob: Listen if his record is 57% in 12 years without the rule should we expect that of him now!
Msla: His record is 54%! We should have been on par with Weber, end of argument! We should expect and get excellence!
Bob: This is the fundamental difference I guess between you and I. If I could be guaranteed the top quarter best winning percentage, a program where the coach makes my family feels welcome, and the top academic program with real STUDENT / Athletes over 15 years, I will take it and run.
Msla: OK reality here, you live in Bozeman, I don’t. All of that warm and fuzzy stuff may work for you, but I want a chance for the Brass ring. I want Weber to be looking up to us as the premiere basketball program, I want…..
Bob: But is that reasonable…
Msla: Why the hell not! We have everything in place we don’t need to take second, no excuse me fourth place. I want wins, and EXPECT success in the classroom.
Bob: But the history of the last 15 years says that taking that route, on average, that our wins percentage, will most likely hover around 49% how is that better.
Msla: Ok read my lips pencil pusher, if I wanted average I would keep Durham……
Bob: Durham is not average, he is well above average!
Msla: 53% seems very average to me!
Bob: Maybe to you but, Durham is not average!
Msla: SHHHHH*T, Let lose, take a gamble, lets get this program rock’n and rolling, maybe we do fail the first time maybe we don’t, but isn’t college and life about taking risks, plus you got to believe with Gamble and Fields making the new hire, we will land a quality new coach
Bob: Can I just say these two things? 1. Solomon, and 2. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
Msla: Are you sure we are related!!
Bob: Yep, just different sides of the same coin.
Msla: Lets just watch the damn game!
