That was a good article. It sounds like Casey has paid his dues and has earned his playing time. I wish him all the luck in the world. If he has impressed his teamates, then he belongs on the team. None of the other guys would vouch for him, if he didn't belong on the team.
I think I met him playing open gym "rat ball" a few years back. Mick was right, he did need a year off to develop physically. He was a small guy.
I remember hearing how a year of official Prep School did not affect your 5 years of eligibility. I didn't know taking a year off completely also worked that way. I thought the clock started when you graduated high school, with the exceptions of medical redshirts, Mormons, etc. Does anyone know how this rule works. NAIA, Div II, etc. have different rules, but I thought you only had 5 yrs post HS in NCAA Div I.

Your Weinke example is good. I don't think I'm pulling the 5 yr clock thing out of my arse. However, this has been known to happen. Is it perhaps a sports specific rule, maybe track and field. Mike, "Hammer", could you help me out on this one?

I think that your clock starts when you attend a college as a fulltime student. There might be an age thing (25???) but I don't remember. Casey is fine.
