Taito

Looks like we have found a good one in Taito. In case he doesn't work out @ RB, we can always switch to him to LB, where he is also quite accomplished. Just talked to a friend of mine in the athletic dept. at the UM who handles schollies, and he was saying that the Griz offered him a full-ride as a Linebacker, where I guess he is a damn good player.

Shelton RB/DB prospect Isaiah Taito has been kept busy even though his football team, after an unbeaten regular season, was unceremoniously bounced from the preliminary round of the playoffs in Washington's largest classification. He is playing basketball for the Highclimbers, and has been busy entertaining guests at those games.

"Idaho came and watched one of my basketball games," noted Taito. "Coach Hart said he was going to try and make my game Wednesday against South Kitsap."

Idaho and Washington consist of two of Taito's top four schools, as he also noted that Montana and Portland State are in the mix. He may visit Portland State in early January and plans on visiting the other three schools as well.

Although the season ending with the surprising loss to a Kamiak team that was a third-seed based on two forfeit losses due to an ineligible player, and would have won its league if not for those losses, Taito was pleased overall with how the season went. Picked to finish sixth in the preseason by WashingtonPreps.com, Shelton surprised everyone with a 9-0 regular season and a division crown, mostly behind the leadership and rushing of Taito.

He said, "We had a great season. It's not often that Shelton does that well, and we hardly ever win championships in anything, so to win a league championship was pretty cool. The reason we made it as far as we did was because of the leadership of all of our seniors. Unfortunately, the one game we had off was the one game that counted the most.

"I had an alright season and should have done better (on offense)," continued Taito. But we had so many weapons, it was hard to give the ball to just one person and I understand that. I was content about how I did - but I wanted to do better."

Taito also said, "I was happy with how I played on defense. I had four interceptions and four sacks." Taito was not used much on defense until the latter portions of the 2004 season.

Of course, he had input on the hiring of Tyrone Willingham as the Husky head coach. He said, "I like him as a coach. Historically he has done well, I just don't think they gave him enough time at Notre Dame to build on anything."

For what I have heard, this was the key factor in him choosing us over the Friz. They wanted him on D as an LB and weren't offering him a schollie as an RB, we stepped up and committed a schollie to him as a Running Back......
