MSU football: 'Cats get three more oral commitments
By TIM DUMAS Chronicle Sports Writer
Three new high school recruits have orally committed to Montana State in advance of today's official signing date.
Two are from Montana schools and the other from California.
They are: kicker Eric Fisher of Billings West, defensive lineman Austin Mullins of Great Falls C.M. Russell and Denis Speights of Mission Viejo, Calif.
Fisherwas voted first-team all-state as a punter and second-team all-state as a kicker. He is expected to handle mostly kicking duties.
Fisher set school records for most point-after attempts made in a game (9-for-9 against Missoula Sentinel last fall) and season (48) as well as most field goals in a season (10) and career (16).
He missed four of 52 PAT tries this past season and his career long field goal is from 47 yards. Fisher is expected to be joined by West teammate Joe Schreibeis at MSU.
Schreibeis, a defensive end, said last week he was coming to Bozeman as well.
Mullins is a 6-foot-2, 222-pound defensive lineman who has been selected to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl.
He is currently one of CMR's leading scorers in basketball.
Other CMR players who have orally committed to the Bobcats include linebacker Chase Gazzerro and offensive lineman Jeff Hansen.
Speights is a two-time all-California Interscholastic Federation (CIS) selection as a linebacker.
Playing for Mission Viejo High, Speights helped the Diablos to a 14-0 record and the CIF Southern Section Division II championship this past fall.
