Starting Lineup

Post by CelticCat » Mon Feb 14, 2005 11:12 am

Who do you guys think will be the starters for the first football game of the season?

Here is my guess:
QB - Lulay
RB - Domineck (on thin ice though)
OG - Birkland
OG - Bolton
C - Wolf
OT - Hirst
OT - Saucedo
TE - Barnhart (Teisher should challenge for time too)
WR - Gatewood
WR - Guinn
WR - Roosevelt (Murray could win this job I'm sure)

DE - Lowe
DE - Matakis
DT - Kolone (just have a feeling)
DT - Rogers
MLB - Mollohan
OLB - Marudas
OLB - King (showed he can play when Marudas was out)
FS - Force
SS - Grenfell
CB - Smith
CB - Davis (Fuller will be right on his heels - he impressed me later in the year)

KR - Gatewood/Murray
PR - Murray
K - Bolton
Kickoffs - Doroski (did I hear he isn't on campus anymore?)
P - No clue

What do you guys think? Those who know more about guys who have switched position and that kind of thing.

Doroski is gone...I assume Lulay will still punt. Also, I think Fuller has been moved to safety and was ahead of Grenfell on the depth chart that someone posted after last season. Other than that, looks good to me!

Looks pretty good - barring any big surprises or injuries that should be close. What about our long snapper and holder? Since we lost Matt and Dusty those are two big concerns I have. Our kicking game has been questionable for a long time but those two guys did their jobs despite all the problems.

Coppack was the No. 2 holder last year, so I'd say there's a good chance he'll be the guy next year unless one of the new players is better. Long snapper...no idea. Somebody mentioned a name on another thread but I forget who it was.

Last year Bolton was out most of the year with that injury, so we never really got to see what he could do. Kramer has little patience in the kicking game, so I think if Bolton can't cut it about 3 games into the season, Fisher will get a chance to show his stuff.

Don't forget Jensen at Tackle.
I was impressed with his play, especially considering he was a red-shirt freshman.
I also think that with Saucedo, Smith and Beniger need to be thrown into the mix on the O-Line.
I also think that Matakis will stay at DT, with one of the new JC transfers playing opposite Lowe at DE.

Any reports on Ryan Cole's visit this weekend??

Wow...this team looks scary good on paper.

I'm not sure who will start at guard between saucedo and Birkland will start this year. I think the OL will be Hirst, Saucedo/Birkland, Wolf, Figs, Bolton. Also, you have to think that Peder Jensen will be in the mix at one of the tackle spots.

Also, as far as the secondary, you have to put Kaiham Hunter in there. He was slated to be our shut down corner last year before he was injured.

I would also like to see "Lulay Light" challenge for the slot position with Rosey, and possibly Murray.

I think our biggest question mark right now is the DL as well as RB. I feel comfortable with both, but it looks very thin.

Any word on Morris Milton on Evin Groves?

On the DL, I think Andy M. will stay at DT, and that Jason Maccolia (sp) will fill in at one of the ends. You also have to put Cogley, and Daly in the mix on the end as well.

QB - Lulay (Carpenter)
RB - Domineck (Groves? Taito? Cole?)
OG - Figeroua/Saucedo (Birkeland)
OG - Bolton (Smith)
C - Wolf (Fig)
OT - Hirst (Beniger)
OT - Jensen/Saucedo (DeCock)
TE - Barnhart (JC transfer, have heard good things from walk-on and RS TEs)
WR - Gatewood
WR - Guinn
WR - Murray (Rosey/Mike Brown/Toby Rundle/Travis Lulay)

DE - Lowe (Cogley)
DE - Matakis (JC transfer)
DT - Kolone (Pappich)
DT - Rogers/Hoffenbacker (JC transfer)
MLB - Mollohan (Mauria)
OLB - Marudas (Ashley)
OLB - King (Curley)
FS - Fuller (Grenfell)
SS - Force (???)
CB - Smith (Austin)
CB - Davis (Hunter)

KR - Murray/Rosey/Brown/Rundle/Tr. Lulay
PR - Murray/Rosey/Brown/Rundle/Tr. Lulay
K - Bolton (Fischer)
Kickoffs - Fischer
P - Lulay/Fischer

One thing for sure, that DL will have an outstanding rotation. No reason for the DL to get tired or worn out as the season progresses.

Nobody had Brewton in the offensive line mix, so apparently his stock is still down or he's not on the roster. Also, is Goins done? And...didn't see Hunter mentioned in the secondary. Is he not coming back? Thanks.

What surgery? I hope you are talking about something very minor.

I think I heard/read that Gatewood has already had his shoulder 'cleanup' surgery done and will miss the spring but will be ready in the fall. I guess it was just to fix some small loose tears/floating bodies or something. It wasn't MAJOR shoulder surgery.

Thanks; it's hard to stay current being so far away from anything besides a computer.

I think Birkland will have a hard time starting because of his size, same for Lowe (3rd down only). I hope Roosevelt plays very little. He is so scared of getting hit that he can only run deep patterns and out patterns.

Not to be picky, but for KR and WR, we are talking about Tyler Lulay, not the QB Travis. Starting to see alot of references for Tyler refered to as Travis. Anybody know Tyler Lulay's speed?

What about Force this year, where will he be playing?

How often does the msubobcats web page get updated, as far as roster stuff is concerned? With all of the comings and goings, it sure would be nice to know who is where. I know that there have been several postings about roster adjustments, but it would be nice to be able to look at one page and say "yep, we look strong at that position, lotsa depth there, need some bodies there.........." It would also be nice to see a FULL roster, ie. one that has every BODY that suits up during the week in practice. Is this even a possibility or a pipe dream?

Anybody know if Jefferson or Miller played football? And yes, I'd still like to see Dissly on the football field and now, Moss on the other side.

From what I've seen of Lowe he seems to have the ingredients of a fine weakside linebacker (Willy).

Lowe has also been putting on some beef this off season. I think that he'll have a Monster year.
