Watched former MSU QB Tyler Thomas at the Tr-City Fever's new NIFL Arena team try outs. He made the first cut(they kept three). It may help that his former HS Coach is the teams OC...He did look pretty good.

I have a lot of respect for Thomas in the way he handled the Lulay thing his last year in Bozeman. It would be real difficult for a senior to give up his job to a true freshman QB and still handle it all with the class TT did.

Yea I remember TT. I came into that year with high expectations, I heard he was supposed to be the real deal. I watch one game and knew right away that either he didn't fit this offense, or he was nowhere near as good as the hype. I was not sad to see him benched, besides, his backup become a decent MSU QB.

I thought that Tyler had all the right tools, it just came down to technique and mechanics. When he would get set and throw the ball properly, his passes were beautiful. It just seemed like he was always throwing off of one foot, or trying to short arm passes to the outside.

I always liked TT, hopefully he does well in his new digs.

I hope he does well also, but he was never a "good" QB at MSU he always threw the ball into the ground. He sucked.

He threw that way because he hated to get hit! When the rush was in his face he would either turn and run, or hit the ground rather than take a hit. that's why his throws were high...he threw a lot of times falling backward and seldom stepped into a throw. He did however take the benching with class!

Don't mean to kick a dead horse, but TT WAS a good QB. His Jr year he helped bring us out of the ashes. (Remember, it was just one year earlier we went 0-11) Give 'em credit for that.

Yes, he did take back seat to Lulay, but who else in the conference wouldn't have that year? Not many.

By the way, I believe Tyler finished his degree this past semester here at MSU. Congrats Tyler on sticking it out. Also, Calvin Ento and Josh Barsh are planning to finish in the next year and Matt Towsley will finish this Spring, Dennis Woodall this Summer. There are other guys around that will finish their degrees soon, I'm happy for all them for sticking it out and getting their degree.

Off the original, but on this topic... I hear that Kellen Alley will be finishing school here while trying to earn a spot on the track team (I'm not sure doing what... hurdles, maybe?).

I would've liked to see him become a prominent reciever, but it's good to see he may be hanging around at MSU for awhile. Hey I wonder if he can play hoops? How is his PF size?

Yep, that would be my analysis as well. Had happy feet in the pocket a lot. Also many times had a lot of open space to run but did not like contact. He definately has a very good arm if he can set his feet/have time and let it fly though.

TT was and is a great guy. He had a couple of great games...does anyone remember the numbers he put up against WSU- that was a hell of a good WSU Team. Good Luck to you TT.

I have balled with Alley and he can leap. He has some of the quickest hops I have seen but other than that he is a little unrefined. Maybe he is going to try the high jump?

An observation then I'm done. I'm not suggesting anyone build a statue or nominate Tyler for the hall-of-fame, and as usual you can take from these numbers what you want. But here are the results when Tyler started for the Cats. Remember, in the two seasons before he came we were 3-19! He started 16 games and finished 7-9. When coach Kramer yanked him in the second half of the Central Washington game I don't think he believed it would be for the season. The Bobcats were hopelessly inept that day (and CWU was pretty darn good). Johnson had benched himself, Joey Thomas was in civies on the sideline until half-time. I believe coach K, upon seeing Tyler taking the team no where in the second half decided, "think I'll see what the redhead from Oregon can do!" That decision effectively ended Tylers career at MSU. But in those 16 games here's what he did. Finished 7th all-time in career passing yards. Finished 6th all-time in passing yards in a season. Finished 5th all-time in career completions. Tied with a bunch of others for 2nd all-time with touchdown passes in a game. Tied for 3rd all-time with 19 touchdown passes in a season (maybe Travis bumped him down one after last year. I don't know how many he threw). Tied for 4th all-time for touchdown passes in a career. He handled his demotion with class and he had a lot to do with Junior Adams coming to Bozeman. Whatever his shortcomings, he does not belong in the BobcatNation dog house. He is a BOBCAT and I wish him Good luck!

One question, how many int did he throw... I know he threw 6 int in the PSU game... Why don't you tell us how great Kasey Hart was too...

Great post, raincat. Couldn't have said it better myself if I had tried.

Actually Casey played in 9 games, was 81 for 176 with 6 intercepts (46 pct.), for 1088 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also rushed for 23 yards and 2 touchdowns. His efficiency rating was 124.2. I just report 'em.

These stats after just 16 games goes to show you just how QB starved MSU has been.
