This was e-mailed to me just now by a friend who works at MSU...I know the university is coming up with a new logo, but has anyone heard anything about this???

MSU Sports Teams to Undergo Color Change for '05-'06 season

Bozeman, Mont. - Montana State Athletic Director Peter Fields has announced that beginning with the 2005-2006 season, all MSU Sports teams will be donning new uniforms, featuring a much lighter shade of blue than the one fans have become accustomed to.

While the official school colors will remain blue and gold, a much lighter shade of blue, similar to that used by North Carolina, will replace the much darker shade of blue that MSU teams have been using since the late 1990's.

"Since the switch to navy blue was made several years ago, a growing number of our fans have complained that the MSU colors just aren't unique anymore," said Fields. Multiple Division 1 teams, including Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Brigham Young, Navy, and potential Big Sky Conference addition Northern Colorado use virtually identical colors to MSU's current shades of blue and gold. "By making this switch, MSU students, alumni, and fans will be able to have a unique set of colors to call their own," added Fields. "No other Division 1 university consistently uses the combination of light blue and gold that we are going to be using. While UCLA does use a similar combination for their home football uniforms, most of their teams use a darker shade of blue that is signficantly different from what we will be using."

According to Fields, the school has signed an exclusive uniform deal with Nike, who will provide the school with uniforms at a discounted price in exchange for advertising space in Bobcat Stadium and Worthington Arena. Fields indicated that MSU head football coach Mike Kramer is in the process of working with Nike to design MSU's new football uniforms, and that the new uniforms are likely to be similar to the popular design currently used by the University of Oregon football team.

New MSU apparel featuring the new color scheme should be available in the campus bookstore beginning this summer.

Note: April Fools! Please do not call the MSU AD office!

Interesting! I always liked Bobcat uniforms (except for those god-awful Notre Dame helmets we had in the mid90s), but my favorite one was when we had more of a yellow/gold rather than a dark gold like we have now.

I'm all about looking unique, although I thought our current uniforms were awesome. They are my 2nd favorite in Cat history, behind the 84 ones.

I wouldn't mind seeing a change, but it is going to have to be good!

I don't know if this is an April Fool's joke or not, but I once read somewhere that the MSU colors are supposed to represent the blue sky (for Big Sky Country) and wheat fields (for the ag tradition). A lot of colleges have some reasoning behind their colors. So a switch would reflect that intent. In football you have sun (gold helmet), sky (blue jersey), wheat (gold pants). UCLA is sun helmet, ocean jersey, beach pants. UM's colors used to represent mining...copper, silver and gold. I don't know what the maroon and silver means.

I thought it might be an April Fool also. But it rings with too much news worthyness. For the record, I think Oregon has the worst designed, ugliest colored, flavor of the month, non traditional, hype-o-rama, ugliest unies since the invention of football. And that's just the home uniforms. The stuff the team is forced to wear on the road is embarrassing even for the opposing fans! We've fallen into the Nike design net! Watch next for Starbuck logo's on our helmets.
I hope Coach Kramer keeps things under control. We've only had our current theme since 2000. I think they are great. Director Fields, go raise money. Stay out of the design studio. Good Lord!!

Oregon/green and gold and MSU/blue and gold have common color. I think they should have lightining yellow unis in common as well.

OK OK, it's an April Fools joke...there will be no light blue Oregon uniforms next year! Just for the record, I think the Oregon FB uniforms are just about the ugliest things I've ever seen.

THANKS. I just called the AD office to see if it was true, they told me I was the 10th caller on this subject. But they did say we will have a contract with NIKE in the next year or so.

I still don't like the "M" logo, bring back the "Cats" logo on the helmets.
