What do you all think? I definatly see room for improvement in our promotions and in-game entertainment.

I would chose an MSU game over a hockey game 10 out of 10 times. The ice dogs do a great job of promotion, but they also do a lot of things that would get us in trouble. Take Geno for example, MSU would be severely punished if our announcer was as obnoxious as Geno is.

Also, anywhere that you can buy beer will automatically draw a crowd and loud fans. The only thing that I think the ice dogs do a little bit better job is music selection, but the DJ at the hockey games plays songs every dead ball (or puck), and doesn't have to worry about what the dance team wants to hear, what old people like, what young people like. He can play a little bit of everything since he plays probably 100 songs/game whereas you may hear 15 songs at most at a bball game.

Oh yeah....The Rex mascot is 1000000x better than Champ has been over the past few years, and has a cooler costume...Sorry champ

Overall, I would not say that the Ice Dogs do a better job of promotion. I think that it is two completely different worlds and it is hard to compare the two.

MSU just got spanked!

A long overdue spanking at that. Someone needed to go over to MSU and rattle their cages. MSU is behind the times in the sports marketing dept., esp. with UM excelling at it. Seems like they're too stubborn to try anything that UM does, but maybe since it's being presented differently they'll get after it a little bit.

Another excellent story, this guy has done a good job pointing out MSU's shortcomings after years of The Chronic burying its head in the sand.

The whole irony of the matter is that this Rex Connell who is with the Ice dogs, interned with the MSU athletic dept, was begging for a job and was told he didn't have "what it takes."

Maybe they could at least bring him in for some "consulting."

Unlike MSU, which relies on the same stale routines at football and basketball games, the Icedogs use energy, polish and gloss to reach folks who have a thousand entertainment alternatives.

I think this statement really is the point of the whole article. No you don't need to be obnoxious, but you do need to make the atmosphere more electric. I think part of the problem is that the Athletic Dept. is making the atmosphere more comfortable for the older fans. It seems like MSU ignores the 13,500 students that attend the University.

I agree with pandering to the older fans. But a lot of the older fans donate money. All I do is pay tuition every year.

I remember a least 2 games last year where someone near us was complaining about us standing the whole game. I like the standing tradition we have. The student section is really noisy and loud, we make a lot of noise (at least the part I sit in).

Considering how high the student fees are at Montana State, CelticCat gives more to the AD every year than most of the season ticket holders.

When I was putting my other half through graduate school at the University of Georgia, I paid $185 per quarter for her activity fee, lab fees and the rest was extra. Then, I still had to pay for her game day tickets--regular price (but high schools throughout Georgia would usually get bulk packs for the coaches to take entire teams to games, so her's was about the only out of pocket expense). But, I remember in the 60s and 70s there was a real disconnect between the athletes in Bozo and the rest of the college and surrounding towns. Does that still exist?
