From the Chronicle:

I just wish we could get this prosess done before we end up kissing off next season.

Actually, I think Fields has more important issues than making a final (and I would guess formal announcement would be more appropriate) decision on the coach. By most appearances, he's already made his decision and we'll probably get a long list of signees in conjunction with the announcement. I'm sitting here praying and hoping the twelfth game gets added as it will effectively eliminate our debt in two years instead of four and render the wannabe conferences useless and put us on the same scholarship level.

Remember that the late signing period starts Wednesday at 7 a.m.

I agree, mslacat, this needs to get done -- but soon. All a fan can hope for is a clean decision, and now we have the waffling article in the Chronicle and a leaked information article in the Gazette. And Wednesday is looming.

No reason to lose some very good recruits. They'll be making commitments, whether MSU is ready or not.

Again I'm guessing, but I think Fields would put getting the best candidate first, ahead of timing. I would also venture a guess that if he could do both, he will...patience.

Dan Toth reported on the news that Trisha Bader-Binford (I think that's her name) will be named the new coach tomorrow. She's an assistant at Utah State, former Boise State player and former WNBA player.

If she is coach she needs to hire kuderna as top assisant. He has recruits and he knows the girls and has there support. Pluss it would be a class move.

First off....that will never happen in a million years.

Secondly, if TBB is the new coach, then welcome to the family and I wish you the best of luck. With that being said, this move really surprises me. It seemed like TBB impressed the fan forums the least. I was at her interview, and she seemed like a good candidate to coach the team, but won't be great with public relations. She had very much and all business attitude. Also, it seemed that Jaime White would be a better recruiter as a head coach, but hopefully she can bring in a great recruiter/PR person...someone in the mold of Johnny Brown.

You have to admit, that it is pretty darn cool that we have a former WNBA player coaching the team.

Shoot...the last time we took the most personable coach was Kramer! Mostly it's been the one with a businesslike attitude (Sheehan) or the only one available (Potera) with an over enthusiastic attitude (e.g. we want to win the national championship!)

im not going to another ladies game. kuderna should have been given at least one more year, what this signals is that he was just a fill in. If so i hope they told him, which i doubt they did. this is a first class classless move by the administration and i for one do not like it

Give me a break! Kuderna is a great guy, but is not a D-I head coach. I think that everyone (including Greg and his staff) knew that he wouldn't be hired back. Is he a nice guy? Of course. Did he do a good job of restoring some sanity to the women's bball program? Yes. Will he be able to take this program to the next level? NO WAY!

If he would have applied a few years ago when Potera was hired, I guarantee you that Kuderna would not have even been a finalist. AND the only reason that Potera hired him in the first place is because he didn't have a strong bball background, and wouldn't question anything she did. He was basically hired to be her "Yes Man."

I really think that the university made a difficult, but correct decision in going outside of the current coaching staff. This program really needs to start from scratch with some new blood.

P.S. How many women's games did you go to last year?

I went to 0, and I will probably go to a few this year to see how the team does under a new coach, and I guarantee I am not the only person who will go watch next years team out of shear curiosity.

let's analize it this way: how many less games did kuderna win compaired with patera? imo only a handfull, and with less players there then in 04. now we may differ as far as how effective of a coach kuderna is we have to agree on the following:

1) he was in a difficult situation replacing the head coach days before the signing day last year.
2) it would have taken a coach like selvig in montana to have a good season under those condations
3) despite those condations he did a remarkable job, especially with the fact he was handicapped with the intern tag.

All that i asked in previous posts is that he be given another year to prove himself because he already has the job. that one more year would thus make recuriting this year easier. do you really think that having 3 coaches in 3 years looks good to a potential recruit? Anyone ask why selvig in montana has a easy time getting good recruits? shoot hes been there for years and has a good progam *hint hint durham* Thats why we loose recruits, for example sonia rogers, who was a big bobcat fan but went to the U because they have the better program. *i have my sources - pretty damn good if you ask me*

Finally because of work i could not make it to any ladies games, when i was in college i went to every single home game and enjoyed it thank you very much. i just personally think it is classless not to give the guy another year to prove himself

a major factor in this decision resides in missoula--robin selvig. one of the most successful coaches in the history of women's basketball, he casts a huge shadow over the lady bobcat program, owning a 60-17 lifetime record against them. if you're a bobcat administrator, you must measure your candidate against selvig, and against his success in recruiting in-state talent, while knowing that selvig's under-classes contain an abundance of potentially great montana kids-morales, conway, closson. apparently they felt that the interim coach was no match for selvig.

is selvig vulnerable? possibly. he built his gaudy record over many years, before other major schools became focused on women's basketball, and i doubt the lady griz will be conference favorites going into next season. but i also think it'll take somebody who can recruit out-of-state talent, which is perhaps why they're going to utah. if i were selvig's rival, i'd cast a wide recruiting net, and definitely recruit black players. selvig has had one black player in 26 years, and that's where he's most vulnerable.

I don't think the administration owes Kudrna anything. He knew when he took the job that he was the Interim Head Coach and there would be a national search after the season, right? There wouldn't have been any guarantees made regarding his job status for future seasons, unless you know something I don't about what he was or wasn't told....

Ok, if the Fiz have had 1 black women's hoop player in the last 26 years, how many have we had here in Bozeman? It is danged tough to get a black girl to want to come to Montana, either Bozeman or Missoula. I do agree, however, that it would be great to recruit more minorities. In Selvig's defense, he has successfully recruited nearly every female Native American from Montana in his 26 years.

The Billings Gazette has this:

Channel 4 news mentioned this last night. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle had nothing at all. The MSU Bobcats web site has nothing.

Tricia Bader-Binford, another hyphened named coach...
I wasn't a big fan of the last one.

I'm not sure if I would hire someone with the word "BAD" in their name.

It's like the old Michael Jackson thing -- you know ... "Bad" means "good." Wait -- Michael Jackson analogies don't work very well anymore, do they? Damn entrapping young boys, messing up my witty reply....
