I think Morgan Ryan was a safety and Sean Hill was a Corner.John Wayne wrote:What would your All Time Bobcat team like like?

Our Hall of Fame does a pretty good job of recognizing our great players. On a related thread, I mentioned some of the ones I thought were really good players and I'm sorry, but I just don't remember Joe Tiller or Jerry Glanville as players, yet I think I read Tiller is in the Hall or soon will be. I know we've had some real special defensive players, but some to the hits Ron East, Ron Ueland, Mike Vollmer, Mark Fellows and Les Leninger made shook the whole field. Even at his age, would very many former Cats want to get hit by Sonny Holland today?

How about at fullback we have Ryan Elliott. I am sure that Ryan Johnson got his rushing record with the help of Mr. Elliott. Also, if you are talking about big hits, Ryan Elliott's hit on the punter for Sacramento State 2 years ago was possibly the biggest hit I have ever seen, any level, anytime. Didn't think that punters could perform aerial moves, if he had landed it, judges ruling might have been a 10.

Hard to argue with John Wayne. You can make a case for all his selections. Based on his posts I'd say I've even been around a little longer than Cat Grad, which doesn't make me an expert, but I have seen nearly every Bobcat since the mid 50's (as a lad) and even played with some of the guys listed above. Some observations..prior to the late 60's most players went both ways. Sonny Holland was a 3 or 4 time All American center, but I say he was the best linebacker I ever saw at MSU. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, a brand new NFL expansion team that year and the Denver Broncos, a brand new team in the brand new AFL. He chose the Cowboys. The Cowboys decided to stick with the name branders they picked up from other teams in the expansion draft or Sonny would have stuck. He ABSOLUTELY would have played on Sunday for the Broncos!
QB...Lulay (if Lulay is Lulay again this year), then Bradley, then Erickson.
RB..Haas (durable, would always get you the yard you needed). Then maybe Ryno or Schafer. It was great to see John Wayne list Tommy Marinen. He was a great guy. Signed with a CFL team. One of the "ornerist" guys around in his time was offensive guard Tony Welzenbach. Bill Kollar was the best defensive lineman I ever saw at MSU. Someone may have been as good, but no one better. Bob Banaugh was the hardest hitting saftey I ever saw, maybe in the whole conference. He hit a running back from Idaho who was coming up the middle so hard everyone thought he killed him.
Tom Parac was prematurely bald and looked 45 when he was 20. Now he's probably 75 and looks 45. After leaving MSU he sold real estate in Bozeman. I used to see him at Eastern games in Cheney/Spokane, but not recently.
Here's a question: Who do you think was the best coach...in you memory? This could be either a head coach or assistant.

The two head coaches I really enjoyed being around were Jim Sweeney and Sonny Holland. My favorite assistant was the line coach just a few years ago that played for Miami and went to OSU when Erickson got the job. Sorry, forget his name but he was a nice kid. Can't think of a head coach I flat didn't like.

I know that I am going to slaughter the spelling, so here is how it sounds out......Muh Hall Chick. Get offensive line coach!!!! He got results out of the worst guys around. I am happy with the o-line coach we have now, but if we still had "Mauler", we would destroy opposing defensive lines!!Cat Grad wrote:The two head coaches I really enjoyed being around were Jim Sweeney and Sonny Holland.
