********** mslacat’s lesson for the day *****************
So toots commented that I must surf the web 24/7. Given the fact that some days at work I sit at my desk and work with Bobcatnation as my home page, I can see where some one can get that impression. The truth be known, I do have a series of places I visit regularly every morning when I start my day with my cup of coffee (or Mountain Dew), but really there are now tools that can help you organize your surfing patterns and bring the stories to you instead of having to search for them.
First of all Montana is a great "search word" typically it will narrow down garbage real quick and get you to topics on both MSU and UM real quick The only problem is that when you use “Montana” & “football” together, this stupid little football player who played in San Francisco a few years back also tends to gum up the works real quick). The other thing that has become very useful and cuts research time down is the semi new technology known as RSS this new web based technology/programs will actually watch multiple sites for you and notify you when certain information comes across the sites you have asked it to watch. So in my case instead of me searching recruiting sites, google, news papers, etc. every day or week this program will actually notify me when the topic I have asked it to watch appears on different sites. When I get into my office in the morning and have my dew... I mean coffee generally no searching required I just click and read. RSS technology should be available I hear on the next version of all browsers (Netscape, Internet Explorer and all) check it out right now there are different programs called news readers that will do this.
By The Way in my business the Internet has replaced a huge libraries of books each office was required to have and constantly update. Its faster, you don’t have to worry if your partner has "hidden/lost" the manual you need, it is far more complete in covering anything I may need, and it is becoming a lot more detail oriented than the old paper version.
I admit I am very good at finding schtuff on the net, but you would be surprised how easy it is to make time efficient and make the web work for you.
Now if there was some Money in it!!

I wholeheartedly concur with your use of the new technologies! Amazing that in my field--education and specifically business education--many non tech teachers that once made such sweet comments as "All the kids do in that class is play on the computers, no wonder you never have any problems with them." are now finding what wonderful uses they can make of the internet in such droll classes as English, History, Math, Science...
Plus, I get the added benefit that so many of the kids know many more sites than I could ever find on my own.
